Title: Thoughts on Hurricane Gustav Post by: jpn of Seattle on August 30, 2008, 05:59:27 AM Hurricane Gustav threatens to disrupt the GOP convention. It could touch land the weekend before their convention, and make it difficult to party in the wake of devastation.
Wouldn't that be ironic? Republicans can't control hurricanes, but the weird thing is some of them think people can: Quote I know there are people who demur from that, but I believe that the Bible teaches that when you violate the law of God, that God brings punishment sometimes before the Day of Judgment, and I believe that the Hurricane Katrina was, in fact, the judgment of God against the city of New Orleans. --His Most Holy John Hagee, whom McCain assiduously courted for an endorsement Imagine what those self appointed, divine speakers for Republican Jesus might say if a dramatic natural disaster coincided with the Democratic Convention. The weather answer to these politically inspired supernatural atmospheric petitions, is Gustav . Due to hit the N.O. area on day one or two of the GOP convention. The news cycle during the convention will be dominated by a Katrina class hurricane hitting the same area, almost three years to the day, bringing Americans memories of the administration's incompetence and indifference to that tragedy. Coincidental tragic irony or supernatural karma? You decide. Quote "Stuart Shepard is invited to lead us in this prayer for rain any day," Pastor Wiley Drake, a former vice president for the SBC, said in an announcement about his plan. "Other prayer warriors are welcome not only to pray for rain but repentance in America as well." Shepard is the director of digital media for Focus on the Family Action, which pulled from its website and YouTube a video in which he asked people to pray for "rain of biblical proportions" during Obama's acceptance speech during the Democratic National Convention in Denver Aug. 28. http://blackpoliticalthought.blogspot.com/2008/08/pastor-wiley-drake-prays-for-rain-on.htmlTitle: Re: Thoughts on Hurricane Gustav Post by: Irwin on August 30, 2008, 10:38:53 AM Ya know I don't believe to ANY degree in any of this crap, but for those that do ... consider that this asshat Wiley Drake ( former vice president of the SBC ) called for christian republicans to pray for rain during Obama's acceptance speech. Spooky. Title: Re: Thoughts on Hurricane Gustav Post by: illy on August 31, 2008, 10:33:26 AM Quote from: Bloomberg.com Energy producers have idled 6.6 percent of oil output and 1.8 percent of natural-gas production in the Gulf because of Gustav, the U.S. Minerals Management Service said yesterday in a statement on its Web site. Personnel from 17 rigs and six production platforms had been evacuated as of 12:30 p.m. yesterday in Washington, according to the statement. The shutdowns halted 86,000 barrels of oil and 136 million cubic feet of gas a day. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aeW1llhhhOoo&refer=home (http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aeW1llhhhOoo&refer=home) This has the potential to bring energy issues to the forefront, which will be bad for McCain and the RNC. No act of god here though, just decades of poor planning in energy policy. Title: Re: Thoughts on Hurricane Gustav Post by: Crystal on August 31, 2008, 11:14:44 AM I just spent a week in Jamaica and Gustav decided to pay a visit on the day I was leaving. I got stuck there for two more days. Gustav is nasty. It was my first experience with a hurricane and it has only gotten bigger since it left Jamaica. Many lives were lost with flooding and plenty of damage. My hope is that the people in danger zones in the U.S. take notice this time and actually evacuate. I will say that it seems plenty of items have been put in place this time unlike the last. We should hope that the planning is a little better and get ready for the clean up.
The biggest news stories will be about human life and suffering with lost homes and newly homeless people needing help. I don't think the energy issues will hit for a while. It all depends on how much damage and loss there will be. Title: Re: Thoughts on Hurricane Gustav Post by: freethinker on August 31, 2008, 01:52:58 PM So did junior decide to not go to the GOP convention to create the illusion of competence and concern for the victims of hurricane Katr....errrr Gustave... OR did McShame say to him, yeah sure as sitting president you are the head of the party BUT... could you find something else to do for 3 or 4 days?? I can't afford to be seen with you.
