Title: Republican Plan: Divide America with Divisive Politics
Post by: ryan77 on September 03, 2008, 08:28:15 PM
Sarcastic. Mocking. Rude. Disrespectful. Condescending. Insulting. Mean. Nasty.

These are just a few of the most common adjectives being used tonight by average voters to describe their reaction to Sarah Palin's speech. As has become par for the course over the past several election cycles, Republicans went completely over the top and well beyond the pale in their nasty divisive insults of their political opponents.

SUBJECT: McCain Message

John McCain is now the presumptive nominee of the Republican Party. It is critical, as we prepare to face off with whomever the Democrats select as their nominee, that we all follow John's lead and run a respectful campaign focused on the issues and values that are important to the American people.

Throughout the primary election we saw John McCain reject the type of politics that degrade our civics, and this will not change as he prepares to run head-to-head against the Democratic nominee.

Throughout his life John McCain has held himself to the highest standards and he will continue to run a respectful campaign based on the issues. We expect that all supporters, surrogates and staff will hold themselves to similarly high standards when they are representing the campaign.

Wow! A lot can change in only 5 months, huh? In the McCain camp, I think it's pretty obvious that any preconceptions about running a respectful campaign that rejects the type of divisive politics that degrade our civics have been burned to the ground, put out with a pitchfork, and buried with a shovel.

Tonight, with John McCain smiling on approvingly, we heard major Republican leaders, including the Vice-Presidential nominee herself, making fun of Community Organizers and openly mocking and insulting Barack Obama to the boisterous laughs and cheers of the crowd. We heard downright nasty attacks on Democrats as a whole and outright suggestions a vote for a Democrat is a vote for terrorism.

In essence, we saw the 2004 presidential campaign all over again. And this is precisely what Barack Obama and Democrats mean when they say Republicans are simply offering up "more of the same". It plays well to the hardcore Republican base. Unfortunately, McCain & Co. do not need votes from the Republican base to win in November. They need votes from independents. And I don't think they are going to win over any independents with the same old divisive politics Americans are so sick of.

I got all of that from her speech. I also got this: it should work.

Kinda knocks the wind out of your "no way McCain" mantra you've been carrying.

I'd do anything to watch you pull the lever on election day, Pathetic.

I will vote Obama... The only thing that can change my mind is MAYBE if McCain states he will serve ONE term.

"His rise is remarkable in its own right. It's the kind of thing that could happen only in America. But he's never run a city, never run a state, never run a business. He's never had to lead people in crisis. This is not a personal attack. It's a statement of fact: Barack Obama has never led anything." -- Rudy Giuliani

The Dems talked alot of trash too though, so it's not like the Republicans are alone.

The attacks on McCain were that he votes with Bush over 90% of the time (true), that he claims he will follow Bin Laden to the gates of hell but isn't even willing to invade Pakistan and follow him to the cave where he lives (true), and that McCain's policies would benefit large corporations and the wealthiest among us (also true).

While they were certainly sharp criticisms, they were by no means mocking or demeaning of McCain. There was nothing at the DNC that could reasonably be paralleled with the nasty belittling of Obama's work as a Community Organizer or the insinuations that Barack Obama believes he is some kind of God that we saw tonight by various speakers at the RNC including Palin herself. That doesn't do anything but divide this country even further.

This is a political campaign, and by all means, it can and should be a tough fight between the two candidates. But it should be a tough fight about the issues. It shouldn't be a fight in which the two candidates make fun of each other and belittle each other and wage snide personal atttacks against one another. How does that help the country?

We certainly didn't see the type of disgusting bile being spewed tonight a few days ago in Denver. I'm sorry, we just didn't.

C'mon...the left is spewing all types of junk about Palin's son...calling him, her illegitimate grandson.  The slams on her daughter.  Slamming her for inexperience, which is hypocritical.  Its campaign season bro...and both sides have camps that make things dirty.  The DNC isn't running some pure dignified campaign....either the GOP obviously.

Its laughable when people view the the left or right as "better and more ethical"

Also, in case you haven't noticed, the US is pretty always divided unless we are in an unprovoked war or in a time of crisis...which neither is applicable right now.

Bologna! The is total crap. NOBODY is calling Palin's grandson "her illegitimate grandson". Name me a single Democratic leader who has done that. Please, I beg you. Name one.

It has NOT happened, and this is the bogus storyline that others have decided they are going to push on bahalf of Republicans - that Sarah Palin is getting a raw deal for being a woman and having a regular family with regular problems - and it is complete and utter bullshit. Not a single Democrat leader or Obama surrogate has insulted Palin or her family like we saw on the opposite side last night. And the media has been MORE THAN FAIR to her. This morning all the cable news shows are swooning over her. Nobody is talking about Troopergate, nobody is talking about her support of the Bridge to Nowhere, nobody is talking about her pork barrel earmarks, her crazy church and religious comments, etc.

You're right. The country is extremely divided. And exactly why is that I wonder???

You're using bloggers to justify what leaders from the other side are saying?

Mkay.

Where did you get that?....my response was directed specifically to a comment based on what Neo had said....went something like this:

So my comment referred to this interaction.

Nothing more

Nothing less.

Attatching anymore relevance to it would in error.

Please cite your sources.

This is the 2nd time now that you have requested that I, and everyone else reading your post, go and find evidence ourselves for your claims. Is this what you call "debate". Why do you even post here?

It was the second time you failed to read, comprehend, and assimilate my post.

Since I don't care to link some MoveOn TYPES blog or "I hate John McCain" website...you somehow find that a "lack of evidence"

Yes, I find the fact that you refuse to provide evidence to support your claims a "lack of evidence". That is correct.

Maybe you refuse to provide supporting evidence for you claims because you know that asserting "a" blog writer or "a" website as representing the entireity of "The Left" is a ridiculous assertion. I can provide websites and dozens of chain emails reaching millions of people that assert Barack Obama is a secret Muslim extremist attempting to become President in order to destroy America from the inside out as part of a global jihad campaign. However, I would never be so foolish as to assert these websites and these emails represent to the entireity of "The Right".

So, for all your faults in constructing sound arguments, I do give you this much credit.
