House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was in a determinedly good mood when she sat down to lunch with reporters yesterday. She entered the room beaming and, over the course of an hour, smiled no fewer than 31 times and got off at least 23 laughs.

But her spirits soured instantly when somebody asked about the anger of the Democratic "base" over her failure to end the war in Iraq.

I don't know what they were -- couches, sofas, chairs, permanent living facilities on my front sidewalk."

Unsmilingly, she continued: "If they were poor and they were sleeping on my sidewalk, they would be arrested for loitering, but because they have 'Impeach Bush' across their chest, it's the First Amendment."  

Though opposed to the war herself, Pelosi has for months been a target of an antiwar movement that believes she hasn't done enough. Cindy Sheehan has announced a symbolic challenge to Pelosi in California's 8th Congressional District. And the speaker is seething.

Recently Nanci Pelosi expressed a similar frustration with journalists over the inability of congressional Democrats to end, or even slow down, the War in Iraq.

In 4 years, Republicans may sweep into power on an anti-war platform. Once Clinton and the Democratic Congress are fully in control, the reality of the consequences of a Iraqi withdrawal will set in. The war will go on. And MoveOn will be infuriated.

You have the name-calling and personal insult in this response, but where's the cussing? It's just not a DogFace reply without name-calling, personal insults, AND a little potty-mouthed 3rd grade level cussing.

It would seem that the name calling goes both ways.

Oh it does, but only DogFace has the ability to consistently drag the discourse down to the realm of a Kindergarten playground (i.e. "dick-stick").

While I agree with you to a certain extent, I have to say the word only doesn't apply.  Do you forget Pathetic (aka Hilary08) and Delta Nine?
