Title: If it tastes good, don't ask. Post by: Opmod on October 22, 2007, 04:37:10 PM So in the word association thread someone posted something that made me remember this sotry.
The first time I visited the Philipeans while in the USNavy a Marine Sargeant who had cross rated from grunt becuase of an injury took us out the first day and showed us what was safe and what wasn't. So we are this place getting something to eat that the Sargeant ordered, some osrt of think noodle and meat soap with vegetables. It was REAL good, or maybe I was just drunk,,,,ok probably both. So I asked Cavemen (Sergeant Cavins) what it was. He waves the little Mamma San over and rattle something off in Philipeano while point at me. She turns to me and say "Ahhhh, How you say? Arf Arf. Title: Re: If it tastes good, don't ask. Post by: Opmod on October 23, 2007, 05:36:40 PM NO actually it was tasty. Once you put aside your stigmas its all just meat.
Title: Re: If it tastes good, don't ask. Post by: Totino on October 23, 2007, 06:14:50 PM True. But I'm still not going to eat man's best friend.
Title: Re: If it tastes good, don't ask. Post by: Jabato on October 25, 2007, 11:53:15 PM But is there any kind of "If it tastes good, don't ask" food, where you live?

Post by: allpoints on October 26, 2007, 08:14:39 PM But is there any kind of "If it tastes good, don't ask" food, where you live? Quite a bit, actually. But I'm of the "Don't knock it until you try it" school., so pretty much anything short of guaranteed hepatitis is a go for me. At least once. Seal, walrus, bear, whale, eels, many different kinds of eggs, many odd parts. No gutz No glory. Speaking of guts... ;D Title: Re: If it tastes good, don't ask. Post by: bringbackwigs on October 26, 2007, 09:41:20 PM Octopus is pretty good. I got tricked into eating it, but I liked it when I ate it.

Post by: 14-years-old-jane on October 27, 2007, 01:31:57 AM i won't eat dog but i don't see any difference between eating dog or cow,,, i would even recommend to settle neighborhood with foreign workers from Philippines or Korea if you have many homeless cats and dogs around ,,,
Title: Re: If it tastes good, don't ask. Post by: illy on October 28, 2007, 09:41:15 PM I disagree, dogs are far more useful and better friends than cows. Ethically, I guess it's not any better to kill a cow, but they're just so tasty.
I've tried some different stuff. Alligator was ok, nothing to write home about, but not bad. I've never had octopus, but I can't stand squid. Calamari is just too chewy, more bearable if it's done right, but I still don't like it. I thought eel was good, but can't get over the fact that eels creep me out. I've eaten squirrel, and wasn't impressed. Probably my favorite animal I've ever eaten was bear. Delicious. I like dogs to much to eat one, cats I'm not so keen on, but I think the meat would be too tough and stringy. I have the same feeling about horse, probably wouldn't be very good. Title: Re: If it tastes good, don't ask. Post by: Liam on November 01, 2007, 01:07:31 PM My food aversions would tend more toward eating certain parts of animals than to eating certain animals. If someone gave a stew with some chopped up dog or horse meat, I'd eat it. If it was dog brains, uh, no thanks. Also, I don't like eating animals that look like they did when alive. I could never eat those cooked-whole hamster-like things they eat in Peru. No thanks.
I've only eaten a few of the more rare (from a US perspective) meats. Bison is awesome, as is elk. Alligator was kind of bland. Kangaroo is very chewy. I love sushi, so there's probably not a sushi-able sea creature I haven't eaten raw. Title: Re: If it tastes good, don't ask. I could never eat those cooked-whole hamster-like things they eat in Peru. No thanks. I whole heartily agree. I have had the Kangaroo and alligator. I have also had Rattlesnake, not bad a little bony kind of the same consistency as fish. Deer is ok a little gamey but deer ground meat is excellent. I had sea slug but would pass if offered again, eel is great. I've only eaten a few of the more rare (from a US perspective) meats. Bison is awesome, as is elk. Alligator was kind of bland. I don't consider myself that adventurous. Title: Re: If it tastes good, don't ask. The hamster thing is called a guinea pig and although it is a bit unnerving when the plate is brought out it is very tasty, though I just couldn't stop laughing. I figure if anyone had an experience at all, I would want to know about it. I don't consider myself that adventurous. Big insects taste kinda like crab or lobsters, considering those are basically just bugs of the sea. I've had chocolate covered crickets, too, only they just taste like salt. One of the wierder thing's I've eaten was pure, fresh out of solution DNA. We did a lab in bio involving the extraction of DNA from onion (the result was a weird stringy substance that looked like spit or cotton suspended in water), and I decided to do my part for science and see how it tastes. It's bitter, although that might've been the enzymes and ethanol. Title: Re: If it tastes good, don't ask. Post by: Opmod on December 20, 2007, 01:11:03 PM You realize you man turn into,,,,,,ONIONMAN
Where is spelljammer when you need him to do some assinine superheroe comparison? Title: Re: If it tastes good, don't ask. Post by: Viv. on January 13, 2008, 01:38:22 PM Haggis = mangled sheeps intestines, cooked and served inside a sheep's stomach. Oh all right, nowadays it's cleaned up the act a bit...
And black pudding = dried hardened blood. Mmmmm....tasty... Title: Re: If it tastes good, don't ask. When there was a huge influx of Vietnamese refugees in the 1970's, the stray cat population decreased significantly. I think we are the only country that eats our coat of arms, the Kangaroo. Kangaroo is really nice, and it is healthy for you too. Most heart specialists tell you to eat it in preference to steak. Kangaroo is low in fat. You can also eat Crocodile at Australian restaurants but that is a lot more expensive than Kangaroo. Title: Re: If it tastes good, don't ask. Saharian squid...........................is not from this world. We also cook a part of the cows stomach. Title: Re: If it tastes good, don't ask. Post by: Biker Dude on January 26, 2008, 01:09:53 PM Octopus and squid are not something I find appealing.

Off the north west coast of Africa. Perhaps one of the most important fishing areas in the world. Spain is also the first world consumer of fresh fish. I cooked an octopus yesterday at home. I'm gonna prepare it for tonight dinner. Raw Onions, raw green and red pepper, a bit of salt, vinegar and Spanish olive oil -probably the best in the world- and that's it. Saludos Title: Re: If it tastes good, don't ask. Post by: Viv. on February 04, 2008, 10:07:16 AM Octopus, eww...I was on a beach in Mexico and this fishing boat pulled out of the water. The boys took this little octopus out of the boat and llet me see it and touch it. Then they threw it in a bowl with some veg and salsa and pumelled it to death right in front of me. ::) First guy who came along, they sold it to him and he went walking off eating the little thing... :P
