Title: Scariest Movies Post by: Gojira on October 30, 2007, 07:44:49 PM Got a date on Halloween. The agreement is to watch scary movies all night together and snuggle. Jump at times when warranted.
What do you guys think the scariest movie is? Any suggestions? The only scary movies in theatre that look even remotely interesting is '30 days of night.' Complete darkness the whole movie? Cool. Vampires on steroids? Cool. Vampires tearing people into gory shreds instead of just doing that whole eye seduction thing and biting thee neck? Very cool. Josh Hartnett? Not cool. His acting blows monkey arse. My only hesitation. Title: Re: Scariest Movies Post by: micfranklin on October 30, 2007, 08:06:32 PM I don't know about scary but I know the Saw movies are pretty damn gory.
Title: Re: Scariest Movies Post by: bringbackwigs on October 30, 2007, 09:01:14 PM I'd go with the Exorcist or Candyman.
Title: Re: Scariest Movies Post by: 14-years-old-jane on October 30, 2007, 09:19:37 PM never seen completely scary movie,,, most of horror films are funny,,, Saw i wouldn't call horror but thriller and well i don't know what date it should be to make s after Saw ( if she would then run away from her),,, now i would recommend movie about vampires and love,,, like Underworld,,, just don't forget to switch from Kate Beckinsale,,, what a woman,,, brunette, looks good and has something animal in her,,, big success for her Jew husband... i don't like his movies but i respect him for his wife...
hahah tell this story to your date,,, Title: Re: Scariest Movies Post by: 2112 on October 31, 2007, 05:20:57 AM 30 Days of Night does look good, but we all know looks can be deceiving. Read some reviews if you're thinking of going.
I would say The Ring, (or the Japanese version Ringu if she's seen The Ring already), The Exorcist, The Host (excellent Korean monster movie), The Descent*** (this one is GREAT for women to watch because it's all women in a cave), The Shining, The Thing, and I can't think of any more at the moment. It is very difficult to make a decent and actually scary horror movie, there's so few good ones. I could recommend more, but the only other recommendations are difficult to find and no normal woman would sit through. Title: Re: Scariest Movies Post by: bringbackwigs on October 31, 2007, 05:26:55 AM Yeah, it's hard to be truly scary. Usually it's just things that I call "paper cut" scenes, where the slow slicing and dicing makes you close your eyes. The cheap thrill.
Title: Re: Scariest Movies Post by: 2112 on October 31, 2007, 05:44:25 AM The other cheap trick is when the volume goes up very fast when something happens to shock you. It's not true suspense, it's just a cheap scare.

It kind of ruins the fun when you already know what to expect. The Host was an amazing movie but more a political satire rather than scary movie. The Thing (I hope you mean the John Carpenter one) is just too gross and I have seen it millions of times. The Descent...now that is what I am talking about. That movie scared the bejesus out of me. And I don't know if it was an alternate ending or anything but the ending was awesome! I think I may have to rent that movie again just see my snuggle buggems shriek in terror. Cuz dude, I saw it alone in the dark with the volume up high in HD and I just flipped the F out. Probably do a duel feature...30 days of night, get the whole theater popcorn thing going, (it got the usual reviews, nothing profound but a good gore fest and creeper like all the others) and then do a little super late night scary movie like the Descent...or the Omen. I still haven't seen the original Omen, am I missing out? Title: Re: Scariest Movies Post by: bringbackwigs on October 31, 2007, 07:55:27 AM The Omen remake sucks. The original is 100x better.
Title: Re: Scariest Movies Post by: Gojira on October 31, 2007, 08:13:13 AM The Omen remake sucks. The original is 100x better. That's what I assumed. Title: Re: Scariest Movies Post by: 2112 on October 31, 2007, 08:15:49 AM The Omen remake sucks. The original is 100x better. Agreed. Same with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Yes I was talking about the John Carpenter version of The Thing (which is a lot like 30 days of night). If she hasn't seen The Descent, then that's the one you should pick after the 30 Days of Night. But, I'm sorry I forgot to mention this. There's some hour-long amazing horror features called Masters of Horror. The best ones from the first season are John Carpenter's Cigarette Burns and Dario Argento's Jenifer. Both of those are very good and will scare you (if not you then definitely the girl). You should be able to rent them. Check it out: (http://www.filmsayong.com/pics/posters/jenifer.jpg) (http://www.filmsayong.com/pics/posters/cigarette_burns.jpg) Title: Re: Scariest Movies Post by: 2112 on October 31, 2007, 08:27:45 AM The Omen remake sucks. Title: Re: Scariest Movies Post by: 14-years-old-jane on October 31, 2007, 09:44:10 AM The Descent*** (this one is GREAT for women to watch because it's all women in a cave) The Shining I'm just a little girl but i like Descent very much, totally forgot about it,,, Shining is more psycho thriller,,, one of best based King's novel movies but again thriller,,, like Saw Title: Re: Scariest Movies Post by: Totino on October 31, 2007, 09:49:23 AM Movies are only scary when you're 5 years old and afraid of the dark.
No movies are scary anymore. Title: Re: Scariest Movies Post by: bringbackwigs on October 31, 2007, 10:27:11 AM Movies are only scary when you're 5 years old and afraid of the dark. No movies are scary anymore. They are if you give yourself over. I see no purpose in watching movies simply to watch them, I like to pretend it's real and get all into it. I like to experience being scared while watching horror movies and feel sad during romance movies and all that stuff. It's a lot more enjoyable. What's the point of watching movies, if you don;t get into it? Some people just don't know how to suspend disbelief. It's why people who don't like sci fi are no fun. Bad speacial FX is a better example. "Dude, this is so stupid, you can so see the strings." "Dude, your ruining it!" Title: Re: Scariest Movies Post by: Totino on October 31, 2007, 11:07:48 AM Movies are only scary when you're 5 years old and afraid of the dark. No movies are scary anymore. But gimmie a break... I don't think that by playing an Xbox game I'm suddenly going to die (what was that horrible movie called?). Title: Re: Scariest Movies Post by: bringbackwigs on October 31, 2007, 11:11:49 AM You mean, when you watch a movie like the Exorcist, you can't put yourself in a state where you forget it's a movie altogether and just live in the moment? That's gotta suck.
Title: Re: Scariest Movies Post by: Totino on October 31, 2007, 12:25:21 PM You really think the Exorcist is scary? I think it's funny...
Title: Re: Scariest Movies Post by: bringbackwigs on October 31, 2007, 12:30:31 PM I make it scary. I can also make Dracula, Frankenstein, Children of the Corn, and everything else scary because I choose to be.
You're just no fun. Title: Re: Scariest Movies Post by: 2112 on October 31, 2007, 12:31:51 PM The horror of the exorcist isn't the girl, it's what the mother is going through. To have a demon possess your child has got to be one of the worst things ever. You can't do anything about it. The demon has invaded your child's body, so you can't hurt your child physically, and here the demon is just literally demolishing her body slowly. It's very horrific from the parental point of view.
Title: Re: Scariest Movies Post by: OswaldTheOsprey on October 31, 2007, 12:33:33 PM The biggest scare I ever had watching a movie was watching the original Jaws at a theatre back in 1975. When the head popped through the portal on the sunken boat. That scared the hell out of the entire audience!
