Title: Colbert one step closer Post by: Opmod on November 01, 2007, 10:09:55 AM http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5gDQmeCxV9IY2e5nsIs-AqWX3imkQD8SL08JO2 (http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5gDQmeCxV9IY2e5nsIs-AqWX3imkQD8SL08JO2)
1 hour ago Quote COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Stephen Colbert's fanciful White House bid took a real step Thursday. It's up to South Carolina Democrats to decide whether to take him seriously. Colbert, who poses as a conservative talk-show host on the Comedy Central cable network, filed to get on the ballot as a Democratic candidate in his native South Carolina. His campaign paid a $2,500 filing fee just before the noon deadline, said state Democratic Party Chairwoman Carol Fowler. Whether he'll appear on the ballot will be decided by party officials later Thursday. The host of "The Colbert Report" doesn't appear to meet the party's viable candidate qualification. And it's unclear if he would meet the requirement that candidates actively campaign in the state. Colbert did appear Sunday at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, telling several hundred fans he would, if elected, "crush the state of Georgia." He also received a key to the capital city and the mayor declared him South Carolina's "favorite son." When Colbert announced his candidacy on his show last month, he said he would run only in this key primary state. Im gona crap if he atually has enough votes to have a "slice" of the voting pie. The SC Democratic elections commission said no... It was just on the show... I wonder if he knew before hand? That made me smile. Title: Re: Colbert one step closer Post by: Opmod on November 02, 2007, 05:18:43 AM The other candidates amek a mockery so why not him?
OK time for a grass roots write in campaign. Title: Re: Colbert one step closer Post by: Biker Dude on November 02, 2007, 06:19:40 AM Heard on the radio that the republicans turned him away also.
Title: Re: Colbert one step closer Post by: Perrin on November 02, 2007, 07:51:42 AM Then he needs to run as an independent dang it, but I don't think you can do that for just one state for president. I believe this was just to run in the primaries.

(http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/11/01/colbert.sc/index.html) That made me smile. Who the hell is Howe? Heard on the radio that the republicans turned him away also. He didn't register as Republican. He didn't want to pay the $25,000 registration fee and additional $10,000 late fee. It cost him $2,500 to register as a Democrat... but it would have cost him $35,000 to register as a Republican? If you needed any more proof that Republicans are rich, white people, this is all you need. If anything they aren't mocking the process but rather framing how the "process" is abused by anyone in politics. Ahk Title: Re: Colbert one step closer Post by: neorealist on November 02, 2007, 02:05:10 PM technically won't he have to shut down his show? I thought candidates couldn't get any free air time? The cut out all the old episodes of Fred Thompson on Law and Order b/c of it.
Title: Re: Colbert one step closer Post by: Abraxas on November 02, 2007, 03:29:57 PM The cut out all the old episodes of Fred Thompson on Law and Order b/c of it. Really? Well, I guess he would have, but since he didn't get confirmed by the committee it wasn't an issue yet. Title: Re: Colbert one step closer Post by: bringbackwigs on November 02, 2007, 06:48:59 PM I watched an episode with him like three days ago. I call BS.
Title: Re: Colbert one step closer Post by: Totino on November 02, 2007, 06:55:24 PM I think it's more like the show can't mention the campaign or be based around the campaign?
He said something about it around the time he said he was running for president... I don't remember 100%. Title: Re: Colbert one step closer Post by: Abraxas on November 02, 2007, 06:57:04 PM Technically he wasn't running then cause he didn't get accepted by the Democratic Election Comittee yet.
I thought BBW was talking about Thompson on L&O. Title: Re: Colbert one step closer Post by: bringbackwigs on November 02, 2007, 06:58:03 PM I was.
Title: Re: Colbert one step closer Post by: -And Justice For All- on November 02, 2007, 07:25:50 PM Guess they were afraid he'd take too many votes away. Between Colbert, Paul, and Nader they'd take a huge chunk of votes away from the main canidates. It should be a Ron Paul/ Colbert ticket with Ralph Nader as the Secretary of state. Now that combo might actually have a real chance.
Title: Re: Colbert one step closer Post by: bringbackwigs on November 02, 2007, 07:28:16 PM I was actually thinking Nader/Paul with Colbert as SOS. Just my (http://www.rpfuller.com/odp/smileys351/2cents.gif)
Title: Re: Colbert one step closer Post by: -And Justice For All- on November 02, 2007, 07:43:15 PM I think any of the combos of those three would work, better than the main canidates.
Title: Re: Colbert one step closer Post by: Abraxas on November 02, 2007, 07:46:30 PM Agreed.
Title: Re: Colbert one step closer Post by: OswaldTheOsprey on November 04, 2007, 06:38:31 PM I was actually thinking Nader/Paul with Colbert as SOS. Just my (http://www.rpfuller.com/odp/smileys351/2cents.gif) Excellent! OswaldTheOsprey
