Title: Stephen King's The Mist
Post by: Gojira on November 01, 2007, 04:35:22 PM
I have always been a fan of Stephen King films because of the underlying social tones and messages that accompany the very fun terror.  I am fan of the the classic favorites like Shawshank Redemption, Green Mile, Carrie, It and the Shining.  I also have some not so well known favorites like Dreamcatcher, Sleepwalkers, The Stand, Lawnmowerman and The Dead Zone.

What do you guys think of the his new movie coming out?  Looks good!

Check out the trailer here. (http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1809834165/video/4594432/standardformat/)

Edit: How do I shrink the URL by making into like a few words?  Tag info?

Ahem... as for the movie, the TV spots don't look NEAR as interesting as the theatrical preview I saw when I went to the movies last time (I forget what I saw). In the theatre it was being marketed as a suspence/psycology kinda thriller. The TV is telling me it's a B-rate horror flick. Truth be told, if I never saw the theatrical preview, I wouldn't care, but yeah... I AM gonna see it.

Well, all of those are well known. Not so well known would be something like The Langoliers. Stephen King is great, but the best thing about his movies are the cheesy dialogue. If it's not cheesy, then it's usually unrealistic, but then, that's what we go to the movies for, the fantasy.

Is your old ID not working, 2112?

Ever since he started having ghost writers do his stories, they have been less than stellar.  His movies have been ok, with the exception of Shawshank Redemption and Green Mile which were Outstanding.  I wish they made a good version of IT instead of the made for TV mini-series.  It, the book, stared the crap out of me.  After reading a few chapters, I didn't want to turn off my light.

The basic gist of this movie does seem interesting, but I does have the feel of a B-rated horror movie.  I will have to check out the coming attractions website to see the theatrical trailer.  Please review the movie for us if you do go to see it.

B-rated or not, (the Mist isn't) most Stephen King films have a particular feel to them much like Tarrantino or Carpenter.  I like this one because you really don't know what is going on and the Mist does great job of marketing a shrowd of mystery.   Which I like.  Some trailers these days show the whole movie.  It's like what's the point? cough*National Treasure*cough

But yeah, there is always a silly twist on Stephen King's stories but what makes them interesting is that he does a great job of fooling the viewer into thinking that this might just be serious.  You can find this in all of his movies, a bend from reality and terror.  It makes it fun if you are good a suspending disbelief in order to enjoy a movie.

The Mist was one of his short stories that I wished he would have taken it into a novel length....at the end I felt like there was more to come and have been disappointed every since. For one, he never tells what monsters are in the mist. Nor as they drive out of town, what happens afterwards. One of those story stories that got you all worked up to have a crappy ending.

Same thing I heard. It left my friend "disturbed", which is surprising if you knew the guy.
