Title: Christians, Muslims erect cross in Baghdad
Post by: Hillary08 on November 08, 2007, 04:24:58 PM
I like how stuff like this does not even get any MSM push...  ???

Michael Yon emails: "I photographed men and women, both Christians and Muslims, placing a cross atop the St. John's Church in Baghdad. They had taken the cross from storage and a man washed it before carrying it up to the dome. A Muslim man had invited the American soldiers from 'Chosen' Company 2-12 Cavalry to the church, where I videotaped as Muslims and Christians worked and rejoiced at the reopening of St John's, an occasion all viewed as a sign of hope. The Iraqis asked me to convey a message of thanks to the American people. 'Thank you, thank you,' the people were saying. One man said, 'Thank you for peace.' Another man, a Muslim, said 'All the people, all the people in Iraq, Muslim and Christian, is brother.' The men and women were holding bells, and for the first time in memory freedom rang over the ravaged land between two rivers. (Videotape to follow.)"

UPDATE: Nashville's Bob Krumm: Sixty years ago a picture of Marines planting the flag on Mount Suribachi was an important moment in World War II since it showed the world a tangible American victory over Japanese imperialism. Today’s picture of Muslims planting a cross on on a Christian Church in Baghdad shows the world evidence of a tangible American victory over an imperialism of hate.

RELATED: KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Close to 90,000 children who would have died before age 5 in Afghanistan during Taliban rule will stay alive this year because of advances in medical care in the country, Afghan President Hamid Karzai said Sunday. Les Jones: The article goes out of its way to give any credit to the U.S., devoting just one sentence (the last sentence) to the American role: "A U.S.-led invasion in 2001 toppled the Taliban militant movement from power."

I saw it on DrudgeReport.com... but didn't think it was whorth mentioning. I mean, the Pope met with the king of Saudi Arabia and Muslims and Christians worked together to put up a cross.

Yay... ???

The dastardly liberal media strikes again.

Who knows what peaceful democracies are flowering in the Middle East?

A christian church re-opens in Baghdad.  Apparantly the leadership feel it is safe to do so.  Muslims and Christian work together to put the cross back on the church.

Does this signal the end of violence and a journey to a sunny land of freedom, religious tolerance, democracy and peace for all Iraqi's?  Of course not.

But it is certainly a possitive thing, and nice to see.  Good for those involved.

Of course, some on this board cannot extend a simple atta boy to people in Iraq trying to make their lives better peacefully, they have to deride and belittle their efforts.

(all that said, I would prefer if we had verification of the stories source)

Isn't that how most hangings go? I haven't heard of being hanged from the feet until they pass out.

Stuff like this doesn't make the mainstream media because it's just not interesting enough.  I don't buy into the conspiracy theory that MSM doesn't report this stuff because they want to influence the politics of our countries.  Reality is this is boring news.

If Joe Sixpack is sitting in his recliner watching the evening news, and he sees this instead of stuff like pretty blond teachers who molest middle school boys, he'll pick up his remote and start watching Wheel of Fortune.

Michael Yon's work is amazing, Here (http://michaelyon-online.com/wp/thanks-and-praise.htm) is the link to the article.  The rest of his site is well worth a read.

On a general note, one thing the Iraq war has done is allow many Christian mission groups into Iraq.  The work going on there is awesome to hear about and it will be an ironic twist if Babylon is the center or healing for the worlds two largest religions.

My only point is that while this is great for the people involved and perhaps does  deserve an "atta boy"... at the end of the day, I don't see this as a big deal.

If religions working together is news, why was no one reporting on the meeting between the Pope and the king of Saudi Arabia? Why? This was the first time a meeting like this has EVER taken place... but no one says anything? MSM conspiracy or just not all that newsworthy. My guess is the latter.

Again, it's good to see that in the streets simple people can forgo the religous warfare that perpetuates the region, but a harder look just shows a moderate muslim (not as rare as the media would like you to think) helping a moderate christian put up a cross.

It's really not that big of a deal.

I forget who it was maybe someone can rememeber.  Someone in this administration or some reporter that said something like, "We don't report alot of good news because when we report something like a school opening or bridge being built, they blow it up."

Of course when I heard it, I just figured it was Black water blowing it up to justify their presence there.  Maybe you can use it to see the joke of a situation we have there.

I guess you have never watched Clint Eastwood's "Hang them High" movie.

BTW, back in the day, it took up to 20 minutes for someone to die from being hung. Until the drop door was used to break the neck, they would just push the condemned off of a platform and let them strangle to death.

This is the typical liberal lie......What the said General said was" they dont report good because when something bad happens they must equally report that. Unlike the liberal media that only reports the bad.

So what you are saying is that the US military trains a bunch of fools that can only can become paid soldiers to blow shit up? Like Red would say......DUMBASS!

Holy sh-t are you in deial.  BLACKWATER has hired troops from the Apartide in South Africa, and soldiers from Pinocet's Chilean Death Squads.  And what I am saying, is that these BLACKWATER -SSH-L-S are running around helping the enemy to lengthen their stay and increase their numbers to make more profit from the "cost plus" programs they operate under.

They are CRIMINAL MERCENARIES THAT WILL DO ANYTHING FOR MONEY!!!  They are killling the moral of our troops and placing them in DIRECT HARM by pulling the sh-t they have pulled in Iraq.  Now I, personally, have at least 3 Blackwater friends.  But that doesn't mean that what BLACKWATER is doing, is okay, or should be condoned in any fashion whasoever.

It's kind of a shame too, from a journalistic standpoint.

Might have made for an interesting read, but the track record of the site dissuades me from caring.

Never seen it; I don't like westerns.

However, I saw this one with Fonda that has hilarious. Can't remember the name of it though. One of the funnier movies I've seen in awhile.
