How is this tolerated by the UN or the other nations of the world?


I'm not an eco-terrorist or anything and I'm not even a big fan of Greenpeace, but when the Japs call them "hypocrites" and there the Japs are waving "little flags emblazoned with smiling whales" I have to wonder how much thought they put into their comments.

My thoughts: The world (ESPECIALLY the UN) should give them the big finger and also attempt to disrupt the Japanese ships, but that's just me :police: .




And if someone says "nuke the whales"... so help me...

I thought about volunteering , not for the whales so much, but because it's the closest thing to being a pirate as you can get these days. ;D

They actually have quite a fleet there...

Maybe I could donate a boat when I start making money. Hell, it's tax deductable!

Thanks, I actually had a few posts right before you guys switched forums, but I've been really busy since then.

And I read an article about that group in Nat Geo Adventurer and it was really interesting. I really love how candid they are about fighting national navies and blockading ports. It is something right out of the 15 and 1600's. Definitely a radical approach, but I admire their commitment. I'm not so sure if I agree with all of their tactics, but I do feel that something should be done about whaling.

This is why there are less and less whales, period, as it is now.

on the other hand Japan recycles about 98% of its paper and glass, compared to the Us's 59% paper/21% glass. (acording to lastest national geographic).

Admirable... but I don't think it excuses the buisness of killing one of the most amazingly majestic and mysterious creatures on the planet, does it?

I mean, the US Navy can't preform sonar testing for fear whales will be beached but the Japanese can blatantly hunt them?

Got to love those Japaness. Aren't they part of the Kyoto Accord? I guess its all good then. They care about the environment.

If they're protected (the whales) then shouldn't Japan be fined for that?

They are using the excuse that it is under the umbrella of scientific research.  This BBC report suggests the number 50 for the current target, but I heard one of the "scientists" defend the project in a radio interview and he quoted at least 1000 as their target on the basis that no meaningful data can be collected from a lower number of subjects. ::)

The protest is gathering momentum...now that they know the world is onto them, they're starting to back off but that means nothing in the long term.

This has me really angry>:(  We have whales on occasion wander up the river.  I admit I wasn't too bothered about "Save the Whales"... before I had the pleasure of meeting one I didn't really get what the fuss is about.  But this whale came really close in to shore, so close you could look into its big, soft, gentle eyes and it looked back into yours, it was curious and benign and just lovely...the swishing noises he made as he dived and raised his big head were just magical...I suppose it helped that the river was like glass and it was a beautiful day :) but this animal had a very warm presence you could feel.  It is just wrong to harm them, they harm nothing else in the world.

A beached whale benefits no one.  It just sits there on the beach and rots.

When the Japanese hunt them it's for the purpose of whatever those guys do with the products made by bits and pieces of whale.

White tailed deer are a fairly majestic animal in my opinion.  That doesn't mean they taste any worse. 

Are white-tailed deer endangered, as whales are?  I am asking...

And could the things the Japanese must do with the bits and pieces, be done with other bits and pieces?  Does not have to involve whales? 

There can be some sympathy toward them for the destruction of a way of life, ie whaling.  However, the Scottish fishing industry (sure there will be others) has been decimated by EU rulings on fishery protection.  Entire fleets have been eradicated in order to protect fishing stocks. 

That is life.

Maybe we should just skip all this "living" buisness and commit suicide...

No, but oddly enough they were on their way to extinction until white-tail hunting began to be regulated.  Since the regulation of hunting ie licenses (and bag limits) who's fees are used to fund state conservation projects etc.  The white tailed deer has become the most abundant big game animal in North America. 


To be honest with you I don't know anything about whaling and what is done with the whale parts.  As long as the majority of the animal is used and the catch is regulated accordingly, i don't have a problem with it though.  There is a difference between hunting an animal and over-hunting though. 


Don't even get me started on the EU.
