I'll take the comments as a "I give up".

The flick was "Things to Come", a British 1936 SF flick based upon H.G. Well's short story "The shape of things to come". It tells how the world is devestated in a World War starting 1940 where poison gas sees widespread use. After a century of war the civilzation has collapsed into a post-apocaliptic feudal regime as a plague breaks havoc on the survivors. Then suddenly appears a foreigner from a technologically advanced country, established by scientists who refuged from war and have kept developing technology. The envoy is captured but his mechanic flees and the scientists-ruled state (based in Basra, Iraq) decides it's time to clean up. They launch a massive air raid with sleeping gas and take over control. A century later, the world is ready to launch men into space but a few people oppose technology and plan to disrupt the space mission. It eventually succeeds to launch (using a giant space cannon) as Man steps forward into a superior state of development.

So you have WW2 foreseen, Mad Max and the Space race all in 94' of running time and made in 1936 with perfect contemporary FX. A true jewel.

He is very correct.  It is definitely a movie you want to check out. A very deep sinister message comes with it, and I found many people have trouble watching it through its entirety, not only because it is long, but because it is quite disturbing.

I'm a bit late, but yes we did use planes like that. It sorta looks like an A-1 Skyraider, but smaller. Go look at the picture of an A-1 Skyraider, you'll be shocked it was Vietnam era. It looks like something out of a WWII movie.

The cool thing about this movie is that when it came out, they installed these "creepy feelly" things to the theater seats so that when the tingler came out (It would crawl on your back and like bite it or something) you would feel it in the theater seat and get scared.
