1  Political Discussions / The Environment / It's getting really serious on: November 08, 2007, 04:41:28 AM
How serious situation on oil price rise reflects the fact that all main TV broadcasters provided significant time for this issue in its primetime yesterday’s news. Both BBC News at 10, BBC Newsnight and the ITV News at 10.30pm analyzed the increase in oil prices and the way it can affect us in the future through interviews with world experts and showing inserts (ITV) from the documentary film A Crude Awakening.
What do you predict- How much time more we have until world oil reserves run out? Are we approaching the end of an era of cheap oil?
2  Social Discussions / Business and Economics / Oil Pushes Ever Higher - Crisis? on: November 07, 2007, 05:48:34 AM
According to BBC from 07.11.07 the ever-weakening dollar and fresh worries about winter fuel supplies have sent US oil prices to $98 a barrel.
The effect was worsened by storms in the North Sea on Tuesday, which disrupted supply as prices inched closer to the $100-a-barrel mark.

Nonetheless, some analysts say that $100-a-barrel oil is inevitable.
The International Energy Agency has said that world production overall will peak between 2010 and 2020.

How will we be facing that?? Are governments investing enough in other alternative sources??
If the price of oil rises to more than $100 a barrel, will alternative energy sources become more popular?
I think we are not really concerned about the real problem and the way it will affect us...
"The real shock about today's oil shock is that it isn't a shock"
Think about it, maybe your children won’t be able to fly…

Best wishes

3  Political Discussions / United States / Fall in US oil reserves on: November 01, 2007, 04:18:22 AM
all caps in tread subject removed, check the rules - tejtej

According to Guardian Peak Oil- the point at which half of global oil production has been consumed, and beyond which extraction goes into irreversible decline, and prices rise accordingly - is almost upon us. The International Energy Agency has said that world production overall will peak between 2010 and 2020. More important- acoording to the same source the Department of Energy reported yesterday that US crude stockpiles had fallen by 3.9m barrels to 312.7m barrels last week, the lowest level since October 2005. This was partly due to supply problems in Mexico, where exports were disrupted by a storm. Control over the oil fields is a matter of world political and economical dominance. Is that exactly what  US is doing in Iraq?!!!!!!!
4  Political Discussions / The Environment / Should We Panic??????!!!! on: November 01, 2007, 04:11:36 AM
Some economists see the surge in the oil price as simply a symptom of the global demand for the black stuff, fuelled by runaway economic growth in China and other emerging markets. Some add that the relative strength of the euro and sterling will insulate Europeans from the brunt of the dollar-denominated increases. Others fret about the effects a heightened oil price will have on the West's stumbling economic performance. Can it be more burrning than this. Are we REALLY facing PEak Oil? Should we panic?!!!
Is it really a time to finally consider the switch to alternative energy sources? Should the UK consider new generation of reactors?
5  Political Discussions / The Environment / A Crude Awakening film on: October 25, 2007, 06:41:12 AM
Hello everyone,

I am currently involved in the release of documentary film A Crude Awakening which will be released in the UK (Curzon Cinema, London) on 9th of November. It is a really good, thoughts- provoking film and I would sincerely recommend it to everyone interested in politics, current affairs and also to anyone else who likes good documentary films. It is described as possibly the most important film of the decade and ‘must see’ film. It treats the subject of peak oil and possible changes we are going to face because of that.
So, come to see this film in cinema and enjoy it. It’s really a wake up call!
