Zuk has been unable to post for some reason, here are his comment:
Quote
Biker, I am impressed by your inability to misstate what you've read, especially after you become aware that I cannot post.

My 'inability to misstate'?  So he is saying I stated it accurately.  Thanks zuk.  Although I know that wasn't what you meant.  You have an incredible ability to read things exactly as you want.  Which is what I did at first here.  Either intentionally or you honestly miss it, you cannot see the intent behind something.

It's not all about you zuk.  Hard to believe I know, but I haven't been in this thread much because I was working.  Nothing to do with you.  Had nothing to do with any nefarious knowledge that you couldn't post.  Hell, if that was the case I might have run out and done some underhanded same sex partner advocacy.  Geeze you have an ego zuk.

You also claimed you had to slog through pages of my 'uncivility'.  Sorry if I offended your delicate sensibilities.  All by disagreeing.  Wow.  Or maybe it was calling you on being an ass in attempting to say I was arguing stuff I wasn't.  Silly me.  In the future I will know that you need to not be called on your obfuscation at the risk of being 'uncivil'.

You also claimed I was upset, or emotional, or something like that.  While I understand that it can difficult to tell over the internet, you are way off base.  I was and am not upset in the least.  You have your opinion.  I don't agree with it, but fine.  It doesn't bother me that you of all people disagree with me.  There is that ego again.

And as to BBW asking a question and leaving and you just leaving, yeah they are marginally different.  Marginally.  You still berated him for bailing when the conversation didn't go his way.  And you still did the same.  You can argue semantics, but the difference isn't that big.  To anyone else anyway.

The rest of his response was to nothing I said, so I didn't respond.

While I certainly hope the "death to fags" people go away, the disagreement with the lifestyle will not.  You may relate this to the civil rights movement but it is not the same.  If someone has a moral opposition to homosexuality it only follows that they don't want their kids to be forced to read a book with it included.
I can agree with this.  If I have a moral opposition to single parent families, and I don't want my kids forced to read a book with it included, I should be able to stop it right?

Need to be careful.  You would be surprised at the number of cerebral hemorrhages that happen while performing just such activities...

No.  I rarely see first run movies in the theaters.  I'm too cheap to pay ten bucks for it.

Sorry to hear you having such a trying day.  It would seem that you have the most difficulty of anybody.  So you will most likely be the most appreciative when it is all fixed!
1401  Political Discussions / United States / Re: Losing our minds... on: October 04, 2007, 09:35:38 AM
The books in question aren't about gay men, it just has gay men in it. Nobody is teaching anything about homosexuality. If a child asks, "why are those two men holding hands", a teacher should tell them to ask their parents, or give such a worthless answer that the kid would have to ask their parents. Nobody is teaching homosexuality here.

The problem is that too many people see something with gay people in it and make it all about the gayness. If kids could grow up with stories that have gay characters, then by the time they become adults they won't be afraid or confused or ignorant about anything. They'd just think, "hey that dude is gay", and that'd be it. It is a non-issue. The fact that people think they need to explain homosexuality in a different way than they explain heterosexuality is pure discrimination. It's the way some people might teach it - "well son, there is what we do, than there is thing that other people do"- that keeps homosexuality in the back alley, and then people bitch about it being back alley behavior.
I attempted to make this point myself two pages back, only to continually hear about the 'states advocation of same sex unions'.  So that is why I bowed out.  It was like talking to a brick wall.

Pulp Fiction.  I love that movie.  My son and I watch it at least once a month just for the quotes.  'Zed's dead honey'....

Chainsaw was more accurately based on many serial killers, and melded into one.

Haha, I don't know. If Dice-K pitches well, count Boston in the WS.

And WTF is up with the Rockies? They refuse to lose a game.
I heard it was an outstanding game.  The irony is that the Avs ended last season like the Rocks did this year.  On a HUGE tear.  The Avs just started to late to make the playoffs.  At least the Rocks started early enough...

Just for information purposes, the Major is not an American.

Something about the posts themselves?  They don't show here either.  I find that to be bizarre...
1407  Political Discussions / United States / Re: Losing our minds... on: October 03, 2007, 12:30:54 PM
You say you are scared of that slippery slope.  Fair enough.  But zuki had a coniption when he thought I was saying the reaction was out of fear.

Does the book also show a relationship between an adult a little kid? 'cause pedophiles exist too. Or is that not until the next edition?

Good point.  I anticipate that BD will protest that this is unfair.
Any moron can see the difference between something deemed currently illegal, an something not.  I can see there is little value in actually attempting to discuss with you when you come out with crap like this.

Since you are not clear what you mean by 'teach' in your sentence.  Teach them to do it?

No.

But then your point fails here because simply telling a story that mentions 'a prince marries another prince' does NOT make same sex unions part of the curricula either.

Are you addressing the legal issue of same sex unions?  If the story of two marrying princes has no pedagogic value, why is it being taught in schools?  If it is teaching "reality" then the fairy tales could become fairly ugly.

You object to my bringing up the fact that this is an employee of a state monopoly school system undertaking the act, as if that were irrelevent.
You also seem to quite happily skip over large portions of post.  Makes it hard to honestly discuss with you.  Kinda like the crap above.

I can go with ridicule.  I am happy to ridicule your desire to hide from the big bad world.

That's a pretty frank admission that you've no desire to discuss the issue, unless it is with people who agree with you.  This story has a happy ending for you.  Your wish is granted.

Good luck with the board.
I will frankly admit that I view you as close minded.  And extraordinarily stuck in your ways.  And I am ridiculing your seemingly endless mis-interpretations of my posts.

I also find it amusing that you quite freely ridiculed BBW for getting into the discussion, then attempting to bow out when you said something he didn't like.  Now you do the exact same thing.  Interesting.

So you would teach all of the bolded subject to second graders?  Or was your response soley to ridicule rather than inform?
I can go with ridicule.  I am happy to ridicule your desire to hide from the big bad world.  Since you are not clear what you mean by 'teach' in your sentence.  Teach them to do it?  To claim that would make a person the biggest asshole on this board.  To teach them that it exists?  I would not support that being part of the curricula for second graders.  But then your point fails here because simply telling a story that mentions 'a prince marries another prince' does NOT make same sex unions part of the curricula either.  To hide from the fact that it exists.  No.  Never.  To address it in an adult fashion when it does come up?  Yes.

Yeah, 'reply' was where I got this sentence from you.  And while I was doing it, you saved it yourself...

Edit:  My mistake.  I saw your post because I was in the reply window.  Posted it and yours were not there.

EDIT - I have several subsequent posts in this thread that do not display.
I thought it said you had made the last post, but when I came here, nothing new from you.  I had one hell of a time posting one of mine, and if I had not had the whole contents of the post on my clipboard for easy pasting, it would not have made it.  Weird thing is this is the only thread I post in that has given me problems...
