This really doesn't have any place in a serious discussion.

Some genuine questions to the republican supporters. Does the republican party need to change or will it evolve naturally?

Well, Republicans don't believe in evolution (I keed, I keed  Wink). They do need to change. Embracing actual conservatism is the change they need.

Quote
Will there be enough future support if the republicans don't change or tinker their policies and thinking?

No. If the Republican party doesn't change their policies of the past eight years, they will no longer be a major party. The Independents would probably replace them. Think about it: Americans would rather have a black guy with the middle name Hussein than a war hero simply because he was a Republican. (And don't give me any of that, 'no, the people voted on the policies' bullshit. I ain't having it.)

Quote
Is the republican demographic a shrinking market? Does it need to embrace the X and Y generation more? Are the republican beliefs outdated and in danger of being obselete due to societal change?

Yes, yes and no. The whole 'family values' campaign that worked for Bush won't work anymore. That's due to a large part because of younger generations becoming older. My generation doesn't give a shit about family values, mostly because we grew up when divorce starting becoming the norm. Republican beliefs (or more accurately, conservative beliefs) will never become outdated. The problem is that the main pull of Republicans (being conservative) has been non existant for a while. Without that, they stand for nothing.

Unless they come in with some fresh, conservative blood, I can see the Republican party dying in the next few election cycles. The Hannitys and Coulters of the world speak to a very small base, and they piss off more people than they convert. Unfortunately, they are big faces (and mouths) that are attached to Republicans, and unless they completely reinvent their image, they're doomed.

Of course, it is the image, not the policies, that need change. I couldn't even imagine a true conservative party right now. It would be nice, though.

Looks like Obama wins. Most of the projections I have seen put the dems with atleast 58 senatorial seats as well. Considering they can just about count on the two independents voting WITH them, that will give them a filibuster proof majority,

Any comments?

Yeah. The 58 includes the independents.

For what it's worth, I thought McCain's concession speech was first-class all the way.

considering the amount of vitriol you pasted toward him on these boards, it is not worth a ton, but it is worth something.  I also agree McCain's speech was first class, but then I believe McCain is a first class guy.  Even if, in the end I was not able to bring myself to vote for him.  I remain firmly convinced we would live in a very different world today had he been the nominee in 2000.  He has been a good citizen and servant of America and Arizona.  If you disagree with me on that, take it up with our President Elect, as he and I share that view.  Speaking of our President Elect, his speech as well was first rate.  I am looking forward to his first term with a mix of anticipation and apprehension.

As he gave his concession speach I found myself asking,,,"Where was this guy DURING the election?" Anyone else think the same thing?

I loved the way he hushed the crowd everytime they started getting bitter and partisan.

Exactly. This is the guy I wanted to vote for, but once he started his campaign, McCain turned into a completely different person. I wonder if this will bring an end to the hate campaigns, as this one turned a hand-across-the-aisle war hero into a dividing, petty old man running a hate mahcine.

This thread is indicative of your general attitude. I get the same feeling here as I do with most of your posts.

But keep thinking that you're right and everybody else is wrong and nobody is listening to your all-wise prophecies. Oh, how hard it must be on you. On second thoughts, go ahead and pat yourself on the back, because nobody else is going to.

Just like you, I keep thinking I am right, when no one demonstrates that I'm wrong. You haven't done that here, only attacked my character. That, in your mind makes you think you are noble. Sorry that me being PROVEN right on this issue urks you so much, but it is your inferiority complex, not mine. Tell yourself that it is partisanship all you want if that helps you feel better, but 2000 and 2004 were easily predictable for Bush for the same reasons as Obama, Clinton, Reagan. I said this in february. The most comfortable with himself, relative to the other candidate ALWAYS wins.

I'm not arguing whether you're right or wrong, all I'm saying is that nobody cares. So you called it, good for you. But it wasn't good enough for you. Everybody had to know how right you were and how we all owe you an apology.

I'm not sure what you were looking for when you created this thread.

They are not going to give any Democratic government a chance.

Should we give Obama more, less or about the same 'chance' Democrats gave Bush?

I don't think we should give Obama less of a chance because Bush got railed. Two wrongs don't make a right. I, for one, am cleaning the slate.

Probably the reason nobody listened to you is because, like me, they don't pay much attention to the type of person who starts a 'I told you so!' thread.

I'm glad you're there for yourself to pat yourself on the back.

I was right and I got shit for it. No one even wanted to hear my, as it turned out, SOLID reasoning. I have every right to point out that I knew WHY he would win back in Feb. Sorry, if that makes you feel angry enough to put some snotty spin on it. Naturally, you are too "cool" to be interested in how I got it right, naw, better to make yourself look "cool" and learn nothing.

Now that you mentioned it, here's a way for you to look cool, or at the very least, not a douchebag:

Be happy that your guy won, and have satisfaction in the fact that you knew it months ago. And spend less time trying to tell people how awesome you are for getting it right. Nobody cares.
