31  Social Discussions / Philosophy and Religion / Re: anti-blasphemy laws- vital or not! on: March 07, 2008, 08:48:37 AM
If that is true it is most likley stopped because it would offend too many people

Who cares who it offends? Why should religious people be insulate from offence in a way other groups are not?

I agree that we shouldn't care who we offend, I was just attempting to explain why Scientology has laws against it in Germany. Precisly because Germany has a harsh history when it comes to dangerous belief systems.
32  Social Discussions / Science and Technology / Social effects if Aliens were confirmed? on: March 03, 2008, 11:05:12 AM
First off I don't believe aliens have actually found or interacted with us.

but...

Lets suppose the crackpot theries about "greys', UFO's, Roswell and so on were confirmed. Lets make a leap of faith and asume that the technology boom after WWII are because of reverse engineered UFO tech. And then lets say it became revealed to the world masses that aliens really do exist. Lets say... they made an apperance at the next presidential inaguration. What would be the effect on the world? How would people change how we see the world, the universe, and each other?

The obvious is reality. Wishing it wasn't so is just that, a wish...and has nothing to do with the radical elements of either radical Muslims or radical Jews.

well then lets form a hypothesis that we can analyze. What would you propose is the problem in Palestine?
34  Assistance and Feedback / The Inferno / Re: Muslim Apostasy on: March 03, 2008, 07:01:04 AM
So rather than agree with a very humanitarian statement you choose to rationalize the violence being done? You had a choice to agree with the statement "There is an inalienable right for people not to be oppressed. " and apparently you choose to ignore it. This jibber jabber about "war is hell" and "reality sucks" is simply an attempt to rationalize previously held beliefs that Palestinians are either not worthy of liberty or that they deserve to be in the conditions they are now.

I don't understand how people can so easily look past the obvious. Hardline fundamentalist Islam and Judaism are enemies to reason, liberty, and humanity.

Last I checked Quantum Mechanics is not a metaphyiscal claim, it is a phyisical claim that can be tested and falsified. It is on the cutting edge of science and not 100% verified as of yet
36  Assistance and Feedback / The Inferno / Re: Muslim Apostasy on: March 02, 2008, 09:33:18 AM
don't try to rationalize suffering by using some oblique statement. If you truely believe that war is hell and we should forget about casualties then we shouldn't care about 9/11 or those who die in Iraq. War is hell, yea, this does not lessen the suffering on both sides and it does not justify conquest.
37  Political Discussions / United States / Re: Ship Built With WTC Steel Christened USS New York on: March 01, 2008, 07:11:04 PM
This is something we should all support, we will move forward using the rubble of the past to secure a better future.
38  Assistance and Feedback / The Inferno / Re: Muslim Apostasy on: February 29, 2008, 11:02:27 AM
We do know they DID invade, meaning they weren't the first population and we can be fairly sure that God didn't tell them to do so. Unless you are saying that Jesus's dad told the Jews to conquer, rape and pillage?
39  Social Discussions / Philosophy and Religion / The Soul? on: February 29, 2008, 10:56:46 AM
My primary question about the soul is when exactly does it "start" or enter the body? For those who believe in this concept it is an important concept because of the discoveries in stem cell research and cloning. If a soul enters the zygote and then splits into identical twins what happens to the soul? Does each have half a soul, or what if two fertilized eggs meld together forming a single zygote?

If there is such a thing as a soul when does it begin, if ever, and how does it come into control of our bodies?
40  Social Discussions / Philosophy and Religion / Re: world unite on: February 29, 2008, 10:51:07 AM
Depending on which "faith" you are talking about...

I generally have "faith" in democracy and the rule of law, however sometimes I see that masses of people are tricked into giving up that right under the guise of democracy. So I have "faith" of a kind, because it can be tested whether or not democracies are more humane contries than others. In general this IS the case.

I do NOT have "faith" in prayer. Primarily because there have been scienntific tests on the subject and the only effect is a placebo effect, something easily replaced with a loving family or community.

Well if we want to talk bible...

Biblical history says that the Jews invaded Palestine (because "God" told them too). They killed the men over 14 and took the women as concubines. Not only is the ancient Jewish claim to the land immoral but it confirms that the ethnic Palestinians were there "first".

To the spoils of war, the victor.  Wink
...that is not all the bible says about the Jews and their birthright.

what other biblical mythologies would you have us believe? From what I have gathered so far you believe that all of Israel should be given to Zionist Jews, all Muslims want to violently take over the rest of the world, and that morality should have no bearing on political decisions...

If then everything is determined, even on the atomic level to a degree, then does free will exist? Does the consciousness we take for granted really exist, is it an illusion, or do we need to rethink exactly what it is we have "will" over?
44  Assistance and Feedback / The Inferno / Re: Muslim Apostasy on: February 28, 2008, 07:36:43 AM
Either way Islam is certainly not a force for good within greater Palestine
45  Assistance and Feedback / The Inferno / Re: Muslim Apostasy on: February 28, 2008, 07:34:48 AM
This was a hot topic when I was in Egypt in January; however, the fact of the matter is that Egypt has much more pressing issues to focus its resources on than this, like access to clean water, dealing with the unemployment, constant threat of terrorism, and the overflowing problem in Gaza.

I sure hope Egypt gets Gaza as a 'gift'. Then they can completely wall them off with the only access by sea and sell them all the electricity, oil, and other goods until they wake up to themselves and start to produce their own economy.  Wink

-Terry

Sure would be nice the occupiers of Gaza would allow them to build their economy... I find it hard to believe Egypt would be worse than Israel in this area.
