Social Discussions / Philosophy and Religion / Re: Guided Evolution?

If we are asuming guided evolution then we have to also asume that We (humans or some other creature) is the end of the line of evolution. If it is guided by someone then that someone has a goal in mind. It is obvious that this someones goal was not efficient if his goal is humankind and he is all powerfull.

Social Discussions / Philosophy and Religion / Is determinism falsifiable?
|

Determinism - the philosophical proposition that every event, including human cognition and behavior, decision and action, is causally determined by an unbroken chain of prior occurrences.
Ignoring the question of first cause, would it be possible to prove/disprove determinsim? What would be a thought experiment that could disprove determinism of our conscious minds?
In other words, could we be determined to falsify determinism?

I don't know how the entire news media and general political debate has missed the obvious but it seems thereis a VERY simple test for whether or not something constitutes as torture. If it's torture when done to a U.S. soldier it is torture when done to enemy combatants.

What you commented on: The chemicals and electronic impulses are also recognizably different for each. has nothing to do with Psychology
you know very little about psychology, neuroscience (which is what that statement is about) is a part of psychology. Now if we will return to the topic of Theism(s). The silliness of all other religions is obvious for most, but not of their own religion. Christians understand the obsurdity of the Cult of Athena and Hinduis see the sillyness of Islam... All religion must be taken on faith, silly or not.

So umm if it worked for crack why not make it work for every drug and create a mandatory 30 year prison sentence for selling any drug in any quantity....
Because then about 1 in 10 college students would be serving 30 year sentences.... Drugs and addiction are a public health problem not a crusade against morality. I also agree that Biden would be a great candidate, he has wisdom from working in government for a long time and is open minded. Not to mention uncorrupted by corporate greed. *cough* Hillary *cough* Bush *cough*

My statement is simply that the feelings we experience label as love can be understood through studying the inner working of the brain. If you really want to know why I believe this I could send you my psychology textbook...
Furthermore the original analogy you drew, you cannot prove 'love' so you cannot 'disprove' God, is a false analogy. The proper analogy, and response is. You can prove whether or not someone experiences love and you can prove whether or not someone has had a religious experience. In fact scientists have been able to measure and reproduce religious experiences with magnetic impulses. (links will follow)
As always, understanding how the sun works does not make the sunrise any less beautiful.

It is relevant....because it is roughly the same pattern for anything else you love...there is no "specific" brain wave for the love of Mom...it looks like love for Dad...love for sister...love for a friend and love for jelly donuts.
First off this is incorrect, the emotional response is different for each of these. The chemicals and electronic impulses are also recognizably different for each. There is no specific brain wave for the love of mom but there IS a specific brain function for it. Brain function is a combination of chemical and electrical signals with cognitive behavior...

Factinista, I think for the most part you are right.
Having said that, too many children are using games not appropriate for their age group and thus get a very wrong impression of real life, death, killing and such. IMHO

agreed there is no reason for 10 year old children to be playing Doom

I think were still missing the point of TERRORism. Nearly all operational definitions of terrorism include an attempt to coerce a population by way of violence, generally by way of fear.
By this definition Shock and Awe is terrorism and so is suicide bombing. (Or is shock and awe not intended to scare the *&@# out of the enemy so they give up?)
Or does the definition of terrorism nessicarily imply the targeting of civilians?
