I am always amazed when I see some guys defending christianism and the others blindly attacking religion as they are the perfect moralists or on the plea of religion is "society's opium"!!
However none from the two teams can deny that they are under Religion Status with another aroma. Indeed securalism laws and mechanism is totally similar to former religions authority in society!
Loosely defined, ‘religion’ is nothing more than a belief system that moves its members to action or to support a cause with fervent devotion;
Take the example of Germany or France where secularism is defended like lion with his prey:
- You HAVE TO BELIEVE on Revolution principles or to be PUNISHED!
- You HAVE TO BELIEVE on holocaust or being jailed, (exactly what the church has made against some misbelievers in the past)
-YOU HAVE TO REJECT some ex-religion laws toward perversion, homosexuality- and to be JAILED if you are polygamist (you don't follow the New Law)!!
- Don't wear ex-religion symbols, just "secular clothes" (new-religion clothes) are allowed in public orgs!
In US, i can mention the OBLIGATION of rejecting communist principles (McCarthyism laws were maybe the perfect example, maybe similar to christian inquisition of the past)- Today the ACLU and the ADL are trying to abolish christian teachings in school about homosexuality, or christmas symbols in schools by issuing new Laws (or new testament!)
Therefore, the government is forcing people into a belief system.Even the most atheist guy like Daedalus can't disclaim that he follows a Typical Religion!.
What's Secularism? nothing, just new Religion!- Secularism is just as much of a religion in the legal sense as Islam or christianism...
Finally, I would assume that Secularism is religion, the Prophet is judicature, the God is the State!

First of all, I`d like to congratulate you on writing your post almost entirely without the use of indefinite or definite articles. Well done.
Secondly, a religion is indeed "loosely defined" in the way you described, much in the way a home is loosely defined as a method of transportation, or a goldfish is loosely defined as a material used in construction. You basically defined an impassioned belief. By your profoundly misguided definition, "liberalism" and "conservatism" and "environmentalism" are all religions - after all, they are sets of beliefs that are supported with varying degrees of fervent devotion.
And finally, aren't there some funerals you could be protesting at?
