I saw the 1998 Tale of Sweeney Todd starring Ben Kingsley. I don't know how old the real Sweeney Todd was when the events occurred, but I like Kingsley he was pretty convincing. I am not sure how I feel about Depp playing the role I might wait for DVD to see it.

I saw this movie a few days ago, and I was rather impressed. I thought they did a great job of recreating the play in movie form. And, per Tim Burton and the story line, it was a dark movie. I really don't know who to give the most credit to, the original writers of the play or the cast who did such a good job bringing the play to life. The song after they decided to bake the victims into meat pies was hilarious. All in all, I am glad I saw this on the big screen and would recommend it to others.

Excellent film. Tim Burton is the man, and Depp is a fantastic actor. Great dark visual style as well.
