I thought it was witty and funny but not exactly a joke, and so I post it here.
(I guess a scientist would be someone who lights candles in dark rooms to see what's in them, btw...)

Maybe, but there is not enough information here. What is the size of the room, and how much luminosity is needed in the room (Likely a great amount if we are to find a black cat with black eyes)? How much does each candle provide? The candles must be verified to produce enough light if we are to assume that the data we get using them is valid....
