I wouldn't go as far as to say their culture is wrong. Let people believe what they want.

So they should be allowed to believe that it's OK to imprison a teacher for naming a teddy bear Muhammed? They should be allowed to believe that it's OK the give a rape victim 200 lashes, to murder homosexuals, unbelievers and apostates? And we can't even say that culture is wrong?
The moderates of the religion don't support such a thing.

The moderates are the one's who don't do everything their religion commands them to.

Again, I try not to condemn the beliefs themselves. Of course, if the belief leads to an outrageous action, you can start pounding them.

In this case the beliefs are to blame. We should condemn their beliefs.
That's bologna. The majority of them are moderates who do infact follow what their religion lays out.

Beliefs are not to blame. If they were, the majority would be saying "off with her head". But the belief system doesn't lay that out. Extremism and terrorist groups (and I say terrorist groups because they push the uncivil and jihad behavior) are to blame.

I heard this morning that she has been 'pardoned' by the sudanese government following the visit by two muslim delegates to Sudan. The whole thing was ridiculous and it was inevitable to come to an end. This whole saga will be forgotten sooner than you think and it will be all over. What I found beusing about the whole of this is that now she says she would like to stay in Sudan.

Beliefs are to blame. The Koran is pretty unequivocal about blasphemy, homosexuality, apostasy, infidels etc. It is also no coincidence that everywhere that Sharia law is practiced atrocities like this are commonplace.

You can continue to believe that Islam is a nice happy peaceful religion if you wish - but be aware that your belief has no basis in fact.

The bible says alot about homosexuals aswell. Are the overwhelming majority of Christians not legit followers because they don't kill homosexuals? Of course not.

My take is 100% legit. You obviously have an issue with a certain religion and a type of people. I suppose that would make you a racist. All logical thinking people agree with me here....

I'm a racist now because I disagree with you? Muslims are not a race! They are a religion. Religions are just ideas like any other ideas. there is nothing racist about saying I don't respect or tolerate ideas which lead to the treatment of women as second-class citizens. Did you know that the Saudi rape victim's brother wanted to have her killed to defend their family's honour?

Did you know that 40% of British Muslims are in favour of Sharia law? This is not some tiny extremist minority - it is almost half of the Muslims in Britain.

Did you know that the Muslim Council of Britain, the supposed "moderate" wing of mainstream Islam, still claim that death is too good for Salman Rushdie?

Face facts: Islam is a horrible religion.

Muslim can be considered a race. Do you even know what the definition of "Race" is? Before I mash you on your racist comments, here you go:
Quote
b: a class or kind of people unified by shared interests, habits, or characteristics
That's from webster. I would say Muslims share a common interest no?

Now onto the teddy incident.
Quote
Muslims: Teddy Bear Protesters Don't Represent Us
Muslim Moderates Speak Out Against the Conviction of a British Teacher in Sudan
http://www.abcnews.go.com/GMA/story?id=3940765
And since you enjoy speaking of UK Muslims, enjoy:
Quote
"It's very, very sad, very embarrassing for us," said Dr. Ghayasuddin Siddiqui, leader of the Muslim Parliament in Great Britain, earlier this week. "The Muslim community here has also expressed that this is simply unacceptable behavior from the Sudanese government, and I think the Sudanese have got to realize that this episode is doing immense damage to their credibility outside."

It's extremist. Do a simple search, you will see Muslims (and orgs) from all different nations condeming Sudan.

Enjoy the read.

Fair enough. In this instance the majority of Muslims seem to have come down on the side of common sense. The others called for her to be executed.

Also, don't misrepresent that poll.

40% of people between the ages of 16-24 what the Sharia laws. And they only polled 209 people. I don't call that accurate. The poll had a 7% margin of error aswell. That's sad.

Also, of the mature elders (55+), only 17% want Sharia laws.

Yes, the extremists have come down on the other side.... As I've been saying.

It wasn't misrepresented deliberately. I wrote what I read in good faith.

And 7% margin of error means it could be as high as 47% as well as going as low as 33%.

Do you have a link by any chance?

And on what basis do you say that the extremists are misrepresenting Islam and the moderates interpreting it correctly?

It wasn't only you, doing a search on google it seems most major news networks didn't put in that discrepency. You can see how easily the news can twist stuff...

But anyways:
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=54018

And if you don't like that like that source here is another:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=432075&in_page_id=1770&in_page_id=1770&ct=5&expand=true

Both say the same thing.

The teacher is home in any case and her son is very happy to have her back.  She says she was treated well in prison and doesn't have anything bad to say about her experience in Sudan, which she said was wonderful up to that point.
I am very happy that the UK Government sent envoys to extricate her.  It is wise to demonstrate that if a British citizen gets into difficulty abroad and is innocent, she can expect to be rescued.
That has always been the case.  They are fortunate IMO that no harm befell her.  It would not have been taken lightly.

They should not have groveled to the Sudanese like they did. They should have said "let her go or you won't get a penny more in aid."
