I'm not saying this can be pulled off because we've seen this play out too often with no results...but talk about an incredible legacy should this work!! Of course it's in the interest of the Middle East that a peace can be reached.

Iran seemed to be really upset, though...

They agreed on what the issues were?

*golf claps*

Don't they do this every time? Jerusalum. Right-of-Return. Palestinian borders. Those are the elephants in the room and the only thing we have to take them down with are BB guns... figuratively speaking, of course.

Personally I think Bush is doing this too late. Iraq is looking better, but it's still in the shitter to any casual observer. Iran is going "nuc-ular" for whatever purpose you wish to surmize and the US is ready to bomb them for it. Pakistan is a little screwed up right now. Syria's not even serious about these negotiations. And Bush wants to bring peace NOW?!?!

What the hell has he been up to all this time?

Bush is just doing what every other world leader has done for the last few decades - pretend to start some sort of healing process so that peace can be achieved.  Of course, it looks nice, but we all know that it is a futile effort.

I sincerely wish it would work, but both sides are too stubborn, and too many "others" have their hand in the cookie jar.  Still, it is amazing that the US can still be criticized for the talks at Annapolis.  While they have representitives from over 40 nations in Annapolis with PEACE on the agenda, the Iranian leadership decides to invite the extremist groups kept out of Annapolis to encourage continued violent resistence.

No criticism of that of course........Because Iran is "just looking out for the best interests of the Palestinians."

Simply put, peace between Israel and a future Palestinian state is an unprecedented VICTORY for the United States, and a massive DEFEAT for Iran.  Bush could walk around pantless for life if such a feat were accomplished on his watch.  The Iranian leadership would just be made more irrelevant, fading into the forgotten pages of history as a group of people who gave nothing to humanity - opposing reconciliation and progress at every opportunity.

Iran cares only about developing a Nuclear Missile, thinking they could 'push' Israel into the ocean and thus peace would reign supreme in the Arab world.

Yea, right.  Roll Eyes

Iran would be obliterated by Israel and her 400+ Nukes both in Israel and South Africa. It would take Iran 3-5 days just to set up a launch even if they were successful in hiding that development (which I doubt) from Israel.

Israel, on the other hand, can boost its Nukes in an hour or less.

Trump.. Israel and MADD.  Wink

UN Gen Sec:

""This new tender for 300 new homes in eastern Jerusalem, so soon after the Annapolis Middle East peace conference, I think is not helpful," Ban said, noting that the United Nations had a consistent position on the illegality of such settlements."

 http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/932108.html

UN testifies its inveterate anti-Smithism again. "Not helpful"Huh? Ye right. Building illegal homes on the Occupied Territories is surely extremely helpful for the peace process. That was the entire point in Annapolis. Israel puts the sceptics in shame once again, demonstrating its long-standing determination to determine the pre-determining conditions of self-determination of territorially undetermined entity terminating the conflict as determined by the terms of the Jerusalem Law.

I'd be surprised if he even knew how to play checkers, let alone chess. Maybe tic-tac-toe is more his speed.

Anyway, I'm not reading anything in the paper or hearing anything in the news about this thing anymore. Anyone know what's going on in Annapolis?

Olmert launching new peace initiative. Or is it an old one? It's called "One Jerusalem United". Oly:

""If we do this with wisdom and caution, we will preserve this city always under our sovereignty, complete and united and accepted by the entire world. This is our goal," Olmert said.

http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/858909.html

Knowing that Israel is as flexible on the most key issue as a gun barrel, why were taxpayers dollars spent on the Annapolis show? Well, never mind American dollar when it comes to Israel.

I agree that pushing the settlement policy (217 settlements up to now) during negotiation is not healthy for peace process.
