Took a look at the Freakonomics blog today and found a good article on why the leftists screwed us on the problem that they continually complain about today; Global Warming.

Nuclear power was the answer, but scared leftists panicked after a nuclear accident (that created no harm to the environment, just was a mechanical failure) and now we are behind in Nuclear Energy compared to our European counterparts as well as the U.S. being the greatest contributor to global warming.

Article found here.

There is a new book out that was written by old Environmentalists who fought against Nuclear Power (and obviously had no idea what they were fighting against, they were just naive like everyone else) finally visited plants and the Yucca Mountain storage facilities and guess what they figured out...

Nuclear power is great!

Haven't read it yet but will check it out.

Book is here.

And raving reviews from the WSJ.

Exactly, it may not be perfect but it is the best chance we have of solving the global warming problem.

USA, that country where the best chance to solve any problem is lining up the pockets of an already subsidized special interests group... Roll Eyes

It's not automatically wrong just because lobbyists want it.

Lobbyists are only an expression of minority interest.  If no one else wants to protest then the deal is kosher.  This plethora of new information is for the lefties only, and why they ruined their only chance to help the planet 30 years ago.

The problem with Nuclear power is:

-the waste
-the cost....its very very expensive.

It pales compared to the American way of doing what's better for lobbyists rather than do what's better for the country.

Nuclear power only works with heavy subsidization and it means that someone makes money while the taxpayers pay the actual cost with subsidies. Companies get the power bills and government pays the waste management. But, hey it's your taxes. Using less energy (that is, a higher proficency) would be cheaper, and using alternate energies would pay itself back -quite unlike money-pit nuclear power, but, your lobbyists are in it to convince you of lining up the right pockets. Oh, and have a problem lasting thousands of years.

It makes you wonder why we abandoned windmills and starting using fossil fuels in the first place.  Roll Eyes
