Some great posts Free...

You have done an admirable job debating this issue. Especially while being outnumbered.

A lot of people just don't  get how the government works. We give them an inch and they take a mile.

Look at the income tax. At first the highest tax rate was 7%, most Americans paid nothing and only a small fraction even had to pay 1% Income tax. So what happened after that? Just 8 years later the top rate was 70% and much later the top rate became 90%.

We need to stay on our government all the time. We can't let up. If history has taught us anything it has taught us that it is government's nature to grow in power and we were warned about this by the founders.

Okay again, you say it, HE WAS ILLEGALLY DETAINED!!!!!

No, I didn't.  I never said that.  I said,

Quote
I will concede that there may have been no reason for the arrest, I wasn't there

I said it again:

Quote
This man MAY have been detained illegally - and I conceded that point at the beginning (you missed it).

I've made it abundantly clear that there is uncertainty, and that has been my position since the beginning.  There are no changing gears here.  I've said that IF the arrest was illegal, then someone will (or should) pay for that.  But you have assumed from the beginning that the police had NO reason whatsoever to make the arrest.  I don't know if that is true, but have said a half dozen times that it COULD be true.

We are arguing the same point, but you have assumed the police acted illegally where I have not assumed this.  Neither of us knows what the circumstances were during the arrest.

I understand the slippery slope - it is obvious.  Nowhere did I state that the police should be able to arrest anyone because someone may have felt threatened by their remarks.  I didn't even agree that the comment was threatening.  What I did say is that there have been cases where real plots were mentioned on the Internet and were thwarted by police.  With that in mind, my original take on this was that the police acted prudently but I explicitly stated that I was aware of the uncertainty surrounding the arrest.  If there was wrong-doing, there are corrective measures in place so that this man will have justice.  Indeed, those measures exist in cases like these so that everyone is reminded that there are actions the police can take and actions police cannot take.  If unscrupulous behavior is uncovered, someone will be held accountable.

So I disagreed with the premise that the man was arrested for stating opinion and have been attempting to point out that this does not indicate a broken justice system in the US.  So far as I can tell, our liberties are not in jeopardy.

Yes great ignorant posts free. It's quite obvious that neither of you know anything about US laws.

Which laws?

You mean like US immigration laws?

The government picks and chooses which laws it wants to enforce.

The Constitution placed strict limits on what the government could and couldn't do. Oh well, I guess since I know nothing about US laws, I should just stick to watching the news and let them tell me what to think........ like you do.

I usually don't respond to compliments, as it wastes forum space. But since you are fairly new and have complimented me at least twice now, I will say thank you and I thank anyone and everyone else who has ever complimented me in the past and all those who will compliment me in the future.

thank you.

I sure would love to see the looks on the founding fathers faces if somehow we could magically make them appear, here and now, after they learn that HEMP is not legal to grow, you need a government license to hunt, fish, or to build a tool shed in your backyard.

Obviously there would be many things that would impress them. We have accomplished a lot in this country, but I know in my heart that they would be totally disgusted by our failure to be vigilant.

First off, how are you going to lecture me on immigration? Everyone knows everytime there is an immigration thread, I'm one of the first in it because I'm pissed off at the situation. Everyone knows that I'm pissed Bush and his Chronies are NOT enforcing laws against businesses.

Now back to the topic. The reality is you and your mate don't know US laws. They took the guy in most likely on conspiracy and pre-meditation grounds. Now, if they formally take this to court, they won't have a leg to stand on. Their only evidence is the blog posting as it appears they have not found any sort of conspiracy to committ a school shooting. BUT, I'm just trying to point out to you two that they most likely picked him up on grounds of conspiracy. And to further point this out, I DON'T AGREE WITH IT. So stop running your mouth.

One sentence is a lecture?

So, you are pissed at Bush, but what did Clinton do regarding illegal immigration?

Do you agree that both parties have sold out the American people?

Are you trying to insinuate that I am defending Clinton here? Read the avatar buddy.

The reality is if REAGAN did something back in the day, we wouldn't be having the issues we do now. He was the one handing out the amnesty in 86.

But anyways, of course they are both guilty. But hey, atleast I'll be voting for someone with the best stance on illegal immigration come the primaries.

Cool. I wasn't insinuating, that's why I asked you directly.

I have been discusisng these issues, on several forums for 10 years. I have a hard time remembering which posters have a particular stance.

The partisanship of most posters at forums has frustrated me beyond what words can convey.

I am glad you are not a partisan poster.

For me, I can see a reason to investigate the poster who applauded the shootings, but I do not believe he should have been arrested. Just my opinion.

Nope, if you don't already know, then you obviously aren't interested, so I will not waste your time, or mine.
