I have an idea. When you go into the voting booth and choose a candidate, a screen should pop up asking you a series a questions. Like, "this person is for ______, yes or no?" If you don't score 75% or better, your vote doesn't count.

I like it.

"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be. The functionaries of every government have propensities to command at will the liberty and property of their constituents. There is no safe deposit for these but with the people themselves; nor can they be safe with them without information. Where the press is free, and every man able to read, all is safe."
ATTRIBUTION:   THOMAS JEFFERSON, letter to Colonel Charles Yancey, January 6, 1816.—The Writings of Thomas Jefferson, ed. Paul L. Ford, vol. 10, p. 4 (1899).

I think Mr. Jefferson underestimated the laziness and apathy of the future generations of Americans.

Another female friend, when asked which candidate she would vote for, replied: "The Woman or the Black Man".  When I asked her why she said: "I'm a Woman, so the thought of a Woman as president appeals to me and my Mother is black, plus I think it might be good to have a black president".  I questioned her further:" So, which of their policies are you in favor of?"  She replied:" well, there all pretty much the same, aren't they?".  The two examples I've given (the rich couple and my female friend) are not isolated incidents.  A good 3/4ths of voters I've spoken with choose their candidates by what they look like, their gender, race or name recognition.  These people hold the future of America in their hands.  Which means America has as much chance of improving as one has at winning at the roulette wheel.

According to a number of posters here, including RetroFit, Totino, and Oswald, they are all pretty much the same. The Ron Paul boosters in particular seem to believe there's no important differences between any candidate but theirs.

WRONG

I never said POLICIES are the same. What has been said is that the top people are fake. The characters are different from our choice. They change their positions and flip flop based upon who they are talking to that day. They don't have integrity or honesty, etc etc etc.

If you opened your eyes you would see that a guy like Paul wants to actually fix the US.... Unlike your gal clinton.

Actually, I wrote an opinion that shared for the most part jpn's. But between the spell check and the preview, it departed into cyberspace and is hardly worth bothering to write again other than to state with the list of candidates from both
major parties, I'm not sure if one who voted first and always as a "yellow dog Democrat" since age 21 (the legal age for voting for my first one) I'm not sure if I
can hold my nose and fill in those bubbles on a CA permanent absentee ballot for
the primary much less the general election.

I'm in agreement with Totino on this one.  Paul IS the ONLY Candidate, IMO, that wants to enact real changes.  I think the Federal Government is out of control and unable to correct itself without a MAJOR overhaul.  Paul is the ONLY one with a constant, un-wavering record.  Sure, I don't agree with Paul on MANY issues and many of his policies are going make things somewhat uncomfortable for myself and others initially.  But, I have to consider my kids and put them before myself.  I have to consider what, in the long run, is best for America.  After years of first hand experience and dedicated research I can only come to one logical conclusion.....That Ron Paul is what is best for America.  I do not see how anyone who has done their homework could possibly come to any other conclusion.

Nothing says "Paul wants to actually fix the US" like his proposal to put us back on the gold standard and eliminate the Federal Reserve System.  Wink

So you prefer our Federal reserve notes that are worth the paper they are printed on?  Paul wouldn't re-call reserve notes, just print (without the fed) hard currency notes as well.  The federal reserve has been ripping us off since 1913...What, you like them?  Are you a masochist?  Or maybe you just don't know enough about the fed to dislike them.  Are you one of those people who thinks "oh, the fed is saving us by making billions of dollars available to loan"....Yes, billions of dollars they will collect interest on, what great philanthropists they are*.  The Federal reserve bank is one of the direct cause's of our failing Dollar.
So, yes, nothing does say that Paul wants to actually "fix the US" like his proposal to put us back on the gold (precious metals) standard and eliminate the Federal Reserve System.  And here I thought you didn't know anything about congressman Paul*
