I'm curious what everyone does for a living here...(or what you are studying in school).

I got my degree in Business (marketing and psychology). I've been working as a web developer since before I graduated (around 10-12 years now).

Obtaining a visa in the US is a little more subjective than you think...my old hometown was literately RUN by Lebanese (descent of course).  The federal representative in Congress was Lebanese, judges, mayors, policeman, business CEOs, Caterpillar's chairman of the board of directors along with a solid chunk of its headquarters employees, professors...the list goes on.  Anyway, during the Israeli conflict with Hez last year, I personally know several Lebanese that arrived immediately to get out of the danger zone....and are still here indefinitely.  All you need is some type of sponsorship...HB1 visa or diplomatic overrides....marriage...the list goes.

so how bout that dinner and beach walk Wink

I kid, I kid.  No, now I am working as.......you guessed it, an electrical engineer.  Amazing how that works!

As of today I cover high school football, mostly recruiting for colleges, for a new KC-based website.

BS, MS, and PhD in electrical engineering.  I was kidding about the shoe store.  Although, with the way things are going - I may have to teach.  Money is pretty good and you can't beat the hours!

I got about a years worth of electronics training in the Marines to fix Circuit Boards on IFF, TACAN, and radar altimeters. After I got out I work in a depot repair facility for a Biomedical's instrument division. They closed the plant and offer me a job as a Field Service Engineer. Its a pretty good gig. I get a company car that I can use for personal reasons. They pay all the gas, insurance and registration. They also pay for my cellphone and internet connection. I pretty much sit on my butt till an instrument breaks and I go and fix it. I work from home so I don't really have a regular commute but I do a lot of drive I cover from Orange county to Santa Barbara. I am pretty happy with the job just not my location. The Pay is great, twice as much as I made working in the depot facility. But here in California, I might as well be making minimum wage.

I was a business owner but sold up and cashed out a few years so am retired now.

But I probably will do something else later(I promised myself I would write a book). Sitting on the beach all day is great but you do need a bit of self fulfilment as well.

Well, right now I am a Vacuum Technician at an up and coming Solar company.  There aren't many people out there with actual knowledge of evaporation and sputter deposition  of thin films.  Plenty of people with education in it, we have a handful of PhD's out of 30 at the company.  But actual working knowledge?  Not many.  I just happened to luck out to be one.  I've worked in R&D and manufacturing in consumer electronics, medical devices, now Solar.  It is a huge market, and our stock has is up to $16 now, started at $7.50 I think...

I'm something of a jack of all trades currently...

Hopefully moving out of that stage soon.

I have a BS in liberal studies (sociology, human geography, and urban planning), and I've done a lot of kitchen and construction work. I also tutor and teach math part time.

I'm about to finish a geography/mapping sciences degree in December and just got a job doing drafting work with a land engineering firm. The coolest job I've ever had was doing photogrammetry work as an intern. I drew features from 3D aerial photos. The most shocking thing about air photos is that you hardly ever see people. If aliens are watching from a distance, they most likely think SUVs are the dominant life form on the planet.

Eventually I hope to get a MS in cartography or GIS, but I'm going to shop around for a situation where an employer can pay for that.
