I'm a registered Republican with a Libertarian mindset.  I was born and raised in Los Angeles California. I have a BA in Business administration and I'm a business owner.  I'm 53 years old.
Anyone who would like to share their stats are welcome.  It might be interesting to compare ideologies by location and education.

I'm 16 (almost 17) and a libertarian with some libertarian socialist beliefs. I live in the suburbs of Chicago and attend high school.

If I could vote in 2008, I would vote for Mike Gravel. I don't plan on becoming a registered Democrat or anything. I like the Green party and the Libertarian party, but I probably won't register for either.

35 year old moderate conservative with Libertarian leanings. I live in Kansas city. I am a college grad who worked to get his education. I was raised very poor and on welfare most of my childhood in the projects in Seattle and later in section 8 tract housing in Tacoma and I am fervently against hand out programs such as welfare atleast as it is designed right now.

I prefer not to divulge, though the info will undoubtedly come out after more time here.

But to the thread topic, I'd have to say that one's environment will always affect one's ideals to some degree. In the US though, we're a highly mobile and very transient society. I live in DC, came out of NY, CA and some other places. I tend to think that each has had some impact on my perspectives. We live less and less in a localized world than we used to, and tend to think that age and socioeconomic status are bigger factors.

Independent though registered as a Democrat in Illinois and formerly Republican when I lived in Florida.  30 years old with a D.D.S and working on getting my M.D. as well as specializing in MaxiloFacial Surgery. Lived outside the U.S. for various years and plan on leaving for about six months within the next year hopefully finally settling down back in Miami.

The fact that I lived out of the U.S. is a huge influence since I've seen how bad things really are in 3rd world countries and not just seeing them on infomercials at night.

I'm 20-years-old and live with my middle-class family in Newark, DE (suburbia) and go to school in the Bronx, NY to become and engineer. I'm an economic conservative and usually a domestic libertarian and a non-interventionist when it comes to foreign diplomacy.

As for the question of enviroments impacting on political beliefs? I think there's credence to the idea... but I'm a bit different from my enviroment, so it may not be the ONLY factor. I'm actually quite "right wing" among my parents, friends and in my state as a whole.

I could just be "different" though...

I'm a 54 year old Art School graduate originally from Boston living now in the Colorado Rockies. Musician, photo imaging and electronics technician and mechanic. I am a socialist leaning Democrat. I hate all things republican and always have. I also hate all mean spirited, greedy, disingenuous, self serving and money worshiping people...as I said I hate all things republican.

Maybe we can "Sticky" this topic so new members can get an idea of who we all are?

I am a 20-year old, black college student, sophomore, former high school wrestler, smartass, intelligent, plays lots of video games, lives in Baltimore County, Maryland (but let's just call it Baltimore) who considers himself highly libertarian and personally would rather focus on solving national problems before tackling international ones, provided its not war.

In my twenties, born and raised in Kansas City, middle-class. Currently making money on the web writing for various websites as well as starting my own. I am not a Democrat nor a Republican. I am socially as liberal as it comes (pro-gay, pro-drug) and fiscally conservative. I don't care for any kind of foreign policies other than "don't".

52, undergrad degree in Business Admin from Washington State U, Masters Degree in Political Science from University of Washington, retired Navy Commander, 6-0, 160, run a half hour a day, dad was a High School Principal, mom was a reporter for local paper. Both parents were Republicans until the party went loco. Raised in agricultural Skagit Valley, worked summers on farms, lived 5 years in San Diego, 2 years in Stuttgart, GE. Traveled extensively, much of it in the third world. Now have a house (and an affordable mortgage) in a mixed middle/upper-middle class neighborhood north of Seattle. Strong liberal.

I think our upbringing is very important to our political orientation. My best friend, best man at my wedding eight year ago, is a businessman of various sorts. His father was a businessman. My friend's a Republican, always has been, always will be, no matter how crazy the Republican Party has become. Our values are the same, our ideals are the same, but when it comes to political parties, we just split different ways. IMHO it's because he can't see past his programming, but he'd certainly disagree with that assessment.

Hi Sax. I thought libertarian and socialist are as different as night and day, oil and water, black and white. How do you see the two mixing?

Hi, Im 23 (53 is my race car and the school bus route i drove) and I've lived in Alaska since birth.

Im Republican and our state is Republican all the way. Our last two democrat governors won with a minority vote (ony 40% needed to win and there was 2 republicans running) and I am proud of our red state.

However, compare us to lower 48 and national republicans, we disagree alot. Since I've been attending school at the University of South Carolina, I've seen a huge difference.

Lot of people have said we're more of a liberarian state, and I do agree. Cause as Republican as we are we've had lot of republicans do acts that lower 48 would not do...

the establishment of the PFD check.
Alaska Kid Kare (its universal health care for kids)
We're one of a four states categorized with the fewest abortion laws.
Fiscally conservative.
Super Hot Gov. Sarah Palin (I love her)

Overall, we not as religious as the lower 48ers...just we want privacy, small goverment, and fiscally conservative goverment.
