Excellent testimony Opmod, glad you made it.  Apparently God has something in mind for you...

But not the other guy, apparently.  How very callous of you.

Unless I read Opmod's post incorrectly, I'd say he/she should be in prison for manslaughter.

I thought about that but maybe the other guy swerved into Op - or Op is writing from a prison cell. Or, Op got off on a technicallity, or is on the run?

I also couldn't argue that "god had something" in mind, rather it was the absence of a god that resulted in the death of the other driver while the drunk driver lived.

Yeah, I don't get it either. There are about a hundred different scenarios that are more plausible, and about a million more that any other person could some up with.

Its basically fortune cookie talk.  JIMP says "God has a plan" and OpMod is supposed to mull over what he should do, and what the meaning of his life is.  Its nothing more magical than that.

It could be that Satan killed the other guy and saved OpMod, or Krishna killed the other guy because he was on his way to kill his family. Or God killed the other guy to "bring him home" and had nothing to do with OpMod...

Of course, none of this sounds as good, since everything that happens is because of God (we have no choice), and its always that the living become part of God's Plan (even if they go on to be the next Hitler - Hitler's mother lost 3 children before bearing Adolf), and the dead ALWAYS go to heaven if you ask their friends and family.

It's just happy talk.

There has never been a better whitewash than religion.

The other dude is dead. Tends to happen when you plow into a median at 60MPH.

I think he was saying that you seemed to be saying that you were driving drunk and a guy had to swerve to miss you.

Ah, the voice of compassion. Or is it redemption? It's hard to tell these days.

The other guy was drunk driving.

As for compassion, he is dead directly from his own actions,,,,why should I have compassion? I call it chlorine in the gene pool.

Weren't you driving under the influence too?

Anyhow, this is interesting. You use this experience as a justification for believing in the Supreme source of Love and Forgiveness and you can only say it was darwinian.  Amazing.

Since we are going down this road...

Was he a family man, did he have friends and family? why was he drunk? Birthday party, promotion, fired, divorce, break-up, or was he on his way home from a bank robbery or cheating on his wife?

Tell us about the guy who so richly deserved God's wrath but was so much worse, apparently, than the wretch you considered yourself to be.

Yes I was driving drunk....down a freeway in my lane. He was even drunker, and going the wrong way on the freeway.

As for what was in store for him I could not comment. Nor do I know how old he was or if he had a fmaily. I was just glad to be alive.

Speaking as a typical human being I would feel similarly, but I would be careful to expound on the reasons for your survival as some proof that a Supreme Moral Judge chose you over another as a sign that you were to then feel morally superior.

I think "lucky to be alive" is right. Luck.

I see no reason, as JIMP does, to attribute this as some purpose for your life. After all, it would be pretty cruel for a god to save your life for some purpose, but not tell you.

I never said anything about a purpose. I am not entirely convinced that we HAVE a purpose, some role to play that we are destined to fullfil. This would eliminate free will and the Bible is rather clear in saying that free will is every humans right.

Call it luck or call it a miracle, either way it made me question my own mortality and what may come after our expereince on this mortal plain.

JIMP mentioned purpose.  Which also made me think, then OpMod doesn't need to worry about crossing a street with his eyes closed, since God needs him for something... (That would be the logical extension, but if OpMod did and was killed, JIMP would say "You shouldn't test God", or "He had fulfilled his purpose, Hallalulhah!"  - Either way, it is plain Happy Talk and JIMP is pulling it out of his ass. It's standard Xian drivel.)

OpMod, it does seem, then, that it was an emotional experience that made you believe in a god. I believe Patton had a similar emotional experience (without the NDE).

I would love to hear about one time a person came to believe in a god through a rational experience.

One question: do we always accept emotional experiences as true representations of reality?

Have you been there? Do you know what's there? So don't teach something you don't know others who think they know what in reality they don't coz you sound exact like them.

What? Is this english?

It looks like you are saying that I should shut my mouth unless I know with 100% certainty that atheism is true.

I don't, I don't know that religion is false. But I also know that I have never seen any reasonable evidence to suggest that they are right and that what religions preach are usually exactly what people want to hear.
