I enjoyed it......typical Tom Hanks=great actor........I wish my Congressman was Wilson....he suffered from integrity issues...but was outfront about it, so you knew what you were getting.

Also, a great background for the war between USSR and Mujahadeen.

Pakistani president is prominent.......reference to Bhuttos father was creepy in light of recent events.

Rob Zombie is great actor, aye?

Let me guess: since I'm a mescaline-taking Satanist, I think Rob Zombie is a good actor and hate people like Tom Hanks just to hate him, right?

How did you get so clever...

Just saw the movie, and it's absolutely GREAT. Aaron Sorkin should get something for the screen play and Tom Hanks should get something for the acting.

See, it's a GREAT period piece because it doesn't have any opinion or allude to the current war, but just US strategy in the middle east as a whole. It shows that while our motivations may be selfish (use the Afghans to fight the Soviets) our actions are not (help the Afghans get the Soviets out of Afganistan) but we ALWAYS screw up at the end.

We help where we can... and then bolt.

The movie makes the point by showing how the US (covertly) gave $500 million (equally matched by Saudi Arabia) to fight the Soviets... but couldn't spare $1 million to fix and build some schools.

In the end, with half the population under 14 we sew the seeds of future cataclysyms because we simply don't follow through. Mr. Wilson eloquently says, "These things happened. They were glorious and they changed the world . . . and then we fucked up the end game".

It really is a great movie. It's not overly political and has a great snap to the whole thing. The best part is that Wilson's staff is a ALL bodacious babes with great *ahem* assets.

Basically, if you were on the fence about seeing it... GO. It's a great movie.

One of my favorite exchanges:

"Why doesn't the US Congress do anything?"

I laughed so loud when he said that.

"Why does Congress say something and do nothing?"

"Tradition, mostly."

I want that on a bumber stucker. I big one.

Personally, I will not be able to see the film until it's on dvd. However, this article seemed interesting to me. Would those that have seen the film please read it and comment? From Ivan Eland at antiwar.com.

I think he's completely wrong.

The last 20 minutes of the movie is how Mr. Wilson, dispite spending $500 million fighting the Soviet Union, couldn't even get $1 million to build a school. He cites that half the population is under the age of 15 and cannot be swayed by extremists... as young people in these kind of situations generally do. The last scene of the movie is Gust telling the Congressmen that the young people have begun to organize into terrorist orginizations like the Taliban.

Even the last line of the movie is, "These things happened. They were glorious and they changed the world . . . and then we fucked up the end game"... and then it goes to the credits.

Quite frankly I don't think the author of that Op-Ed even saw the movie... though I think you should. Why don't you wanna see it in theatres?

It's not that I don't wan't to. I am the live-in guardian for my elderly parents. We have a lady who comes in during the week, but she leaves about 1 pm. I am not complaining (my folks are wonderful), but I only get out for errands.
