As per a conversation in the Science and Technology board on smart office buildings that have zero expenses due to...

This is all just the beginning of our next age in capitalism...Natural Capitalism.

Reusable resource allocation and conservaiton, bio-mimicry and efficient flows of production all are the next step in transforming our society from the post-industrial waste producing machine into a harmonizing economic force that works with the eco-sphere, not against it.

Finally, thanks to great advances in science and technology, this has become economically feasible...

These smart buildings are the first step.

Seems like an interesting read - I just might check this out!

This is what I call smart and realistic environmentalism.  Thought it should be brought to this board.  Enjoy!  Cool

Yea there is some pretty cool tech these days. Eventually i want to build myself one of those eco homes packed with new technology, some of them are actually using negative amounts of fossil fuels in terms of electricity, they sell it back to the national grid.

I invested in an ETF that was a mix of "green" companies...it started falling so I sold it. GEX and PBW -- I chose the former because it is a mix of international companies, PBW is mainly US companies -- and I don't think we (the US) is doing nearly enough. We should be a leader in this area.

More info here: http://www.wikinvest.com/concept/Renewable_Energy#Companies_who_benefit

Another good article about Clean Energy investing:
http://www.businessweek.com/investor/content/aug2007/pi20070824_621859.htm?campaign_id=yhoo

I figure this is probalby the only accessible way for me to invest at this time...retrofiting my home for $20k is not going to happen, but putting a few hundred bucks in a Clean Energy ETF and letting it ride...

What will influence businesses to conduct these ecologically beneficial changes? How could it increase their profits? If it does not, than the concept of 'natural Capitalism' is unrealistic.

Quote from: George Carlin
Capitalism tries for a delicate balance: It attempts to work things out so that everyone gets just enough stuff to keep them from getting violent and trying to take other people’s stuff.
