Just curious what people do around here to maintain good health and personal well being.

I have been working out for an hour a day/five days a week for the last 12+ weeks.

For about 2 years I have been eating 3 meals a day. I used to just skimp on breakfast and lunch and then eat a big dinner; I got up to 240lbs. After eating 3 meals a day I got down to 200 or so. I have started eating 5 small meals a day now and nothing after 6 pm. I drink no soda and only water or diet ice tea. My 5 small meals consist of high protein. 3 eggs whites for breakfast, cottage cheese, a special protein pudding, a can of tuna with mustard, and a small dinner I am trying to eat smaller portions than my kids. I really need to get back into a cardio and free weight work out regime for at least 30 min a day. I want to get back down to 175 or even 165. I am only 5'7" and I know that sounds kinda skinny but to be honest my energy since I have dropped the initial 50lbs over the past 3 years has been amazing.

Let me preface this by saying that I drink and smoke a lot. So, I'm not really "healthy".

But, I work out about 45 minutes a day on the Chuck Norris gym. That thing is awesome. Plus, I eat like 5 small meals a day instead of 3 big meals. Keeps me breathing.

I walk about 2 miles a day, but that’s going from class to class across campus. Does that count?

every little bit helps.  I can't say I have lost a lot of weight myself... maybe 15 pounds over the last 3 months.  But I have built some crazy muscles in my legs.... eek!

targo, you should be commended for making your workout a routine. That is not as easy as it sounds to make yourself just do it.

I was just reading this article about how soda makes us all fat yesterday, I think everyone should read it: http://www.cnn.com/2007/HEALTH/diet.fitness/09/18/kd.liquid.calories/index.html

I skip breakfast and eat small meals, so although I stay thin, but I am not in shape like I should be. But I'm not really interested in staying thin, because it doesn't help the heart or circulation. I really need to get myself running or doing workouts or something. As it stands I just eat too much chocolate and sugar, but I have cut way down on soda by not buying any for a few months now (except once a week at a fast food place).

Well I signed up for www.survivorbootcamp.com and made sure to do it for 12 weeks.... I knew 4 weeks wouldn't be enough.  The cost of it was high and seeing as how we really didn't have the money to do it I made sure to just do it.  My husband saw it as an investment in our family and our future.  I am done with bootcamp but don't want to back slide on my commitment so I have been walk/jogging 2.2 miles a day in about 32mins as well as doing 15mins on the stationary bike.  I will also do some pilates and hopefully find some yoga to do.

I am at an elevated risk for type II diabetes b/c of the GD I had as well as high blood pressure and well I just wanted to make my health a priority before it became an over whelming necessity.

As for soda I rarely drink it, also no juice and I cut back on my coffee consumption as well as the cream and sugar *sigh*

I have a personal trainer 5 sessions a week. Plus I have gym where I live so that is handy. But consistent motivation is sometimes hard.

I admire all the efforts people are doing here. Really great to see. Exercise is the best investment in your time you can ever do.

Once you get in the habit of exercising when stressed, it can make a difference.

I have a dip stand. I do dips, pushups, pullups and leg lifts and stick twists in the morning five or six days a week. I try to get out hiking about twice a week, and I walk everywhere. I'll hit the dumbbells for some exercises about 4 times a week, but I'm not serious about weightlifting anymore.

I used to play raquetball (sp?) a lot and I need to get back into it.

Chovy's right about the stress. Exercise helps a lot.

Also, I've got some minor issues with my back from a spill off a rope swing as a kid. Every now and then my back starts getting achy and I'll throw it out, but exercising my abs and doing stick twists seems to prevent this very well. The potential  back pain serves a good motivation not to get lazy and fall out of the routine.

well currently I am at my highest stress levels and have been exercising the most in the last 13 weeks so hopefully that does nothing but benefit me Wink

I would love to be able to afford a personal trainer and have a gym at my disposal.  for now while the weather is nice it's walk/jogging and the stationary bike.  I am building up to doing 30-45mins on the bike before the weather turns.
