For decades, the church try to set anti-blasphemy laws in order respect religious sentiment of million believer, in 1989 a group of atheists described church as "the most criminal organization in history" which provoked Christian official leaders again to seriously put laws similar to anti-defamation rules.
Blasphemy scandals series has made real challenge to believers: "Salman Rushdy, "The Last temptation of Christ", Prophet cartoon, Da Vinci Code...etc
In Britain there is an old, little-used law against blasphemy, and a new law that outlaws incitations to religious hatred. However the former explicitly applies only to the Anglican Church,
Germany has an anti-blasphemy law dating from 1871, but it has been little used in recent decades
France outlawed blasphemy at the time of its revolution in the late 18th century; the law has never been reinstated.
In US there were some laws in the founding days:
Section 36. Whoever willfully blasphemes the holy name of God by denying, cursing or contumeliously reproaching God, His creation, government or final judging of the world, or by cursing or contumeliously reproaching Jesus Christ or the Holy Ghost, or by cursing or contumeliously reproaching or exposing to contempt and ridicule, the holy word of God contained in the holy scriptures shall be punished by imprisonment in jail for not more than one year
Religiously speaking we have some texts from bible:
He who blasphemes the name of Yahweh, he shall surely be put to death; all the congregation shall certainly stone him: the foreigner as well as the native-born, when he blasphemes the Name, shall be put to death Leviticus 24:16
Everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but those who blaspheme against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven Luke 12-10
Anyway, it seems that even existed those laws are not seriously applicated- do you think that Laws should be reviewed and reinforced?
