News so far the turks have lost 7 men!
I think kurds are a better fighter than turks but turks have large numbers!
Also kurds will get supplies by americans who so far have been so "understanding" with turks.
Now for what I have seen from kurds in fighting field is some determination, basicaly they say kill me or I kill you! No other way nothing left to say!

If this would be a killing contest we would be winning: 112 vs 8.

But it is not. It is a bloody war and there is no fun about it.

PKK has nothing to lose and nothing to protect.

That's their strenght. Just like Al Quaeda.

You do seem rather excited about it kactus. Are these people your role models or something? Is 'kill me or I kill you' an activity you're aspiring to? There's a recruitment center in your neighborhood. Alternatively Im sure the PKK takes on anyone. That's a joint better left unsmoked, yo.

Absolutely. What's 'funny' is that if you went in there with fast air and non-stop artillery you'd kill a whole lot of civilians as well and it wouldn't be "Oh look the Kurds are better fighters than the Turks!"; it would be 112 : 8 and we'd be reading, "ohhh those ruthless Turks! You bastards! Picking on defenseless Kurds!"

The self-evident hypocrisy by those who think they know what they're looking at when they see combat is astounding to me sometimes.

I am not excited about it at all Ahk and I certainly do not aspire to their activities. They are not my "role models" as you put it.. Why should the same group of people that also terrorises iranians under a different branch name be my role model!?
That said I still do maintain the turkish forces do not have enough experience to deal with these 'fighting animals' in the field.

Don't hold me to it but I heard 24 Turkish soldiers were killed in an article I read somewhere. I'll see if I can dig it up.

That could be it Terry  Smiley

Its hard to know exactly what is going on though because both sides are saying different things as part of their PR. Every article you read, there are different casualty statistics.

I must admit my knowledge of the kurdish/turkey conflictual background is almost none so I will have to read up a bit. If anyone can give me a summary though I would be grateful.

From what I'v read, Turks are throwing everything they can in the Battle: Tanks, F16, artillery...
Now that the Turks have the aprobation from the US and the PKK doesn't seem to find political support from the Kurdish governement, IMO the rebels are toast.

We an't say who is the better fighter: Kurds or Turks. Yet, the turkish soldiers there are elite fighters, well trained and with top supply, behind-the-line support and equipement.
Furthermore they made a very bold move by attacking in winter.

This will hurt PKK bad, very very bad, but it will not kill them off. That's the nature of this sort of asymetric warfare. You can kill 99 of them but that 1 that gets away is enough to cause headaches. All it takes is one terrorist that gets lucky.

(By the way; some troops have returned home today.)

And Turkish Army have been in Northern Iraq since late 90's. And the best part: They were invited by pashmarges:

The very nature of asymmetrical warfare will be the scourge of the Turks invasion of the northern part of Iraq. The PKK will disperse to the south mainly, with 'stings' to the organised Turk army. In the long run, this incursion will make no difference.

The only just solution is a free Kurdistan, Turkey just can't face it.

Have you all not freed enough nations in the last century or so to just have them come back and bite you in the ass. One would have thought that you would have learned by now.

I wish the Turkish troops luck and god speed.  Its only so much that a one can take before putting thier foot down.  Terrorist are terrorist, I do not care who thier suppliers/supporters are or what thier mission is.  When you use violence to get your point across the victims have that same right to greet you with violence.
