I saw "Old Contry for Old Men" in theatres a few weeks ago and I thought it was good. I think the acting was it's biggest feature, especially Javier Bardem, but the movie, as a whole, wasn't the best I've seen from the Cohen Brothers. I think "Fargo" was better.

I just watched "Michael Clayton", and while the acting wasn't as good (Tom Wilkinson was GREAT, though), I thought the movie was really engaging. George Clooney played his character well and I think they did a great job of fleshing out the moral issue he was facing. It also didn't have a lot of "lawyer babble" that might bore people. I think it moved quickly and really left the audience wondering what would happen next.

Personally, I think "Michael Clayton" should have won Best Picture police .

Anyway, if anyone saw either movie I'm curious to know what you think.

My wife picked up the Michael Clayton movie a week or 2 ago and we watched it.  I was bored to tears.  The story has been done before and the acting was sub-par.  It reminds me of the Erin Brochivach, Rainmaker, etc. type movies.  I have not seen No Country for Old Men yet, but I was curious about it.  I am not familiar with the story line to it though.

Personally, I am waiting for Iron Man and Dark Knight to come out.  While I know those types have been done before, I am just ready for some movies that don't try to take themselves too seriously.

Totally agree. "Iron Man" looks KICK ASS with Robert Downy Jr. as Stark... and I was always looking forward to "Dark Knight", but now with the death of Heath Ledger, I'm even more anxious to see it. Is that bad to say?

Anyway, I saw "Jumper", so if you wanna see a movie that's more fun than serious, I reccomend that. It's actually not that bad, I just wish they fleshed out the back story a little more. It was quite interesting. Plus, the visual effects are really pretty good. And, as a side note, Hayden Christianson's acting got a little better since "Star Wars III", so it's not too, too bad to watch.

I have been tore on whether or not to see jumper.  I think I will have to see if there is a method in which I could view it for a minimal charge (wink wink).

As far as the Dark Knight thing goes, I feel the same way you do, so if you are going to hell for thinking that, I won't be far behind.

My wife just picked up No Country for Old Men today at the library, so I will have to watch it tonight to see if it really deserves best movie.

My thoughts are rather scrambled today, so I can only write a sentence or 2 about any one thing before I have to start a new line.

Just saw a trailer for a new Mike Meyers movie, "Love Guru".  As long as all the funny parts were not shown in the trailer, it looks like a funny movie.

Oh, and Robert Downey Jr. playing a guy who has a drinking problem (at least in the comic version of Iron Man) seems like a perfect role for him.

I imagine "Love Guru" is going to be a bore... but the Ben Stiller movie looked pretty funny (if not in the same vein). I can't think of the title off the top of my head.

Is that the one where they are actors in a war movie.  Jack Black is in it too.

oooops, I said Ben Stiller and meant Adam Sandler. He's an Israely spy and comes to America to be a hair dresser.

I laughed out loud during the previews, so maybe I'll see it if my friends want to go.

missed that one.  Not a huge adam sandler fan though.  Happy Gilmore was good, but didn't care for Waterboy

Found the movie you are referring to "Don't mess with the Zohan" or something.

Another movie that looks interesting is Leatherheads.

So I watched "No Country for Old Men" last night.  Very disappointed.  I would say your analysis of the 2 movies isn't too far off.  No wonder the Academy Awards show was the least watch in years.  The movies up for best pictured were just not very good.

Atonement looked like an absolute BORE... so yeah, none of the movies up for awards were half way decent, and certainly didn't deserve awards for best picture (can't speak for "There Will be Blood) cause I still haven't seen it).

I thought "Juno" was great and certaintly a departure from the other violent dramas or boring history lessons that always get nominated. I would have been happy if it got best picture. I mean, it got best screenplay...

I think the acting awards were well deserved, though. I kinda wish the girl from "Juno" got something... even if she had to get it in a tie.

I will not be able to watch Attonement.  I agree with you, it looks way to boring.  I still haven't watched Juno, but I am interested in seeing it, but it didn't warrant a movie ticket price.  I try to keep my big screen viewings to movies with a lot of special FX.

To me it just makes sense.  If something blows up, it is much cooler to see that on a huge screen with surround sound blasting through you and even hearing the audience making noise of surprise.  In a comedy, the jokes are not any funnier on the big screen and other people's comments are just annoying.

I did, however, see Sweeney Todd on the big screen and it was awesome.

Good point, actually.

I'm so pissed I missed it. By the time I found friends who would see it with me and wouldn't think I was gay... it was out of theatres.

I'll get it on DVD soon...

my two cents:

Clayton was actually the one of the worst movies I've ever seen.  I fell asleep and didn't even watch the ending after I woke up.  I'm a bit of a Clooney fan.
