If you found No Country for Old Men boring or not very good, then you ought to do yourself a favor and stop watching movies altogether. It was intense, and it was a classic. The Coen Brothers best since The Big Lebowski. Their art for storytelling is nothing short of magic.
Oh, I NEVER thought it was boring.
For God's sake, that "Call it" scene with the gas station attendent had me sitting on the endge of my seat... LITORALLY.
But this was just GREAT
acting in (what I thought) a good movie.
But the best film of the year without argument from anyone who truly loves storytelling is There Will Be Blood. P.T. Anderson has proven himself a genius with this one, it is better than anything Stanley Kubrick ever thought of doing, and it actually rivals Citizen Kane. Daniel Day Lewis really takes you back in time, I can't believe the amazing performance. It's as if you are not watching a movie, simply time traveling to witness events.
My friend saw it and I was supposed to go with him, but something came up and I never got a chance to see it again. Is it on DVD yet?
Otherwise, I'll hold judgement until I see it.
Juno was great, but I think the writer had a one hit wonder with that one. We'll see if her next project is any good. Also, Ellen Page needs to show some sort of depth and try playing something other than a smarmy vixen.
It may have been a "one hit" wonder... but still a wonder.
I just thought the lead actress was terrific. She truely mastered and personified "dead pan humor".
She's a GREAT actress for her age, but I guess not the best actress in the category.
"Death at a Funeral" and "Hot Fuzz" - Brit comedies
I haven't seen "Death at a Funeral" yet, but I wanted to... and then forgot all about it.
I've recently become a HUGE lover of British comedies myself. Any other good recomendations?
i with Butters on this one, "Fargo" is the only decent movie from Cohen Brothers. It is slow but goes somewhere. They always got best actors and best acting while their movies are utter crap.
Agreed.
I think they're scripts are
intresting and they're directing is pretty good, but I think they're undeserving of the clout they recieve every time they make a movie.
