Keith Olbermann has cracked a stupid joke about John McCain wearing Depends diapers. Will he be suspended by MSNBC like David Shuster was for his "pimping Chelsea" crack or made to apologize as Chris Matthews has? Or is this overbearing and egomaniacal blowhard above the rules at MSNBC? Greg Pollowitz ponders the question at nationalreviewonline.com.

No, of course not. Olberman was speaking of a republican. Have you EVER heard anyone in the media apologize for smears or lies aimed towards one?

Well, as much as I detest Olbermann, the GOP has its own bevy if egotistical blowhards: Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck etc etc.

I agree. But....the fact that Olberman gets the pas tells me that MSNBC doesn't much care what he says about a Republican. Otherwise, there WOULD be action.

Perhaps. However, Morning Joe levels criticism at both parties on MSNBC. Has FOX ever taken action against O'Reilly?

For?

I was Bill just about every night. I find him to be respectful except when it comes to child molesters...then the gloves come off. I've never heard him make fun of someone...be it age, sex, race, orientation.

He does tend to laugh at stupidity, though.

I find him to be a pompous gasbag and humorless to boot. Of course, I despise most "pundits" of either side.

He does come across a little arrogant, no doubt. But he's generally respectful. Olberman should take a cue from that and perhaps increase his viewership.

Maybe Olbermanns "depends diaper " comment isn't too far off the mark...I'm thinking back to this post by RemoteOutpost ;http://www.itsallpolitics.com/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,26/topic,1891.msg45983/#msg45983

Later, one of the staff personnel told both of us that the Senator had “a little accident” and he had to change his pants. Jesus H. Christ! This nut is going to be a President? My friend, who is a pro, said he was very obviously suffering from pre-Alzheimer’s and believe me, although I am not trained, this one was a pure space case. They must know this. I guess they give him a shot of something before he gets out in public but if you saw him with a vacant stare, talking to himself, you would not have to be a professional shrink to know that putting this pathetic man into the Oval Office would be a worse mistake than putting Bush in. At least as far as we know, Bush doesn’t talk to the walls and wet himself.”

I do not watch him regularly, but from what I have seen his respectfulness decreases the more a guest disagrees with him.

Perhaps so. It is still very hard for me to take Olbermann, O'Reilly or any of the rest either left or right. One set shills for the GOP and the other shills for the Democrats. There are some genuine independent thinking non-conformists (both left and right) out there, but they are mostly either print or on the web.

This is pure opinion I am about to lay down here, so be kind.

I think that most people who view Countdown with Keith watch it because they know it is slanted and the man is funny.  They don't watch it to get "updated" or to be informed.  They watch it because it is blatant about being what it is, so it is a guilty pleasure.

Now, shows on the right, like O factor, try to take themselves too seriously and pretend that they are being "informative".  Large groups of people watch it think they are being "informed", even after the funny survey comparing O'reily watchers and The Daily Show watchers showed that really isn't the case.

Keith and Bill both know they are merely entertainers, but Keith is more honest about it to his audience.

Again, just an opinion.

I won't even touch the douchebagginess that is Hannity.
