Hmmm....

Quote
Smiley warns GOP contenders about political consequences of skipping minority debate

"Three of the four leading Republican presidential candidates turned down invitations to a PBS debate this month at a historically black college in Baltimore, leading moderator Tavis Smiley on Thursday to accuse them of ignoring minority voters," Jill writes this morning in USA TODAY.

Arizona Sen. John McCain, former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani and former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney have all declined to participate in the Sept. 27 debate at Morgan State University.

"No one should be elected president of this country in 2008 if they think that along the way they can ignore people of color," said Smiley, host of radio and TV talk shows. "If you want to be president of all America, you need to speak to all Americans."

I happen to be a student at Morgan State University, and even though I'm a little unsure of them, I find it very bizarre that Giuliani, McCain, and Romney (the 3 big names in the GOP race) showed up to every other debate but won't come to this one.

In a way I'm almost offended.

Give it a rest.
The Democrats did the same thing to African Americans when fox was holding the debate (don't remember the name of the minority org).

So they are equally bad.

Well since those 3 aren't going to show up, let's take a guess on the other 5 that will most likely show up.

Yes... It's just getting really annoying at this point.

"The democrats did this. They're horrible".... Republicans did the same thing

No, Totino... Democrats did not do the same thing to African Americans! And the organization was the Western Majority Project which consists of a bunch of mostly white democratic politicians from western states.

Quote
The debate was to be hosted by Fox News Channel and Fox News Radio, the Nevada State Democratic Party and the Western Majority Project.

The only reason the Democrats refused this debate was because of Fox.

It was also co-sponsered by the Congressional Black Caucus: Political Education and Leadership Institute. Feel free to look the CBC Institute up.

But, nice job trying to lie.

Anyone who tries to play this off as a race issue is an idiot

The main reason I have slightly more patience with the GOP rather the Democrats is this kind of drivel. This is the perfect illustration of what the late, great Dr. Samuel Francis meant when he said the Republicans were the stupid party and Democrats were the evil party. Making mountains out of molehills such as this idiocy, the Jena 6 thugs, affirmative action, hate crime laws, speech codes, statehood for DC. In sum, pure Frankfurt School cultural marxism: large doses of white liberal guilt and race hustling racketeers. Angry Roll Eyes

O.K. Totino... your right. Sad The Dems did skip another debate that was sponsored by the CBC. But is was also sponsored by Fox and that is why they skipped it. I had never heard of that debate.  Shocked

Yes Totino, the issue here is whether or not the GOP is being racist by not attending any debates where they will have to answer questions posed by minorities. So far they have skipped both debates where they could have done this. As far as I am aware Democrats have only skipped debates because they are sponsored by FOX.

And you are the idiot if you think people are not going to see the GOP as racist because of this. They already screwed up things with lots of people over immigration and other issues. This just makes it worse. And as long as the GOP choses to ignore minorities they will be increasingly seen as racist!

Oh... and Oswald... how are Democrats ignoring the Christian right?

Prove it.

You're a bafoon if you think it's a race issue. And you really have no grounds for anything you say. You're simply being biased as usual.

Oh... and your not being biased??..  Roll Eyes

I don't have time to prove anything today... I'm going camping and fishing. Grin Grin Grin

But feel free to give us some legitimate reasons for the GOP for not going to any minority sponsored debates other than because of racism. Good luck not sounding like another conservatively biased GOP apologist.

Besides... it really makes no difference if they actually are racist or not. As long as it appears racist to the voting public it will mean less votes for the GOP in the coming elections.

First... I never said that they pander to the religious right. Your just putting words in my mouth.

Second... I asked how they are ignoring them. You did make that comment in your post that got lost. Think maybe you could answer that?

And third... Why do you think most Dems running for president have been making it a point to show their religiousness? It was for all Christians especially the right.

You don't have to prove anything? You're the one making the claims, you do need proof. Innocent until proven guilty buddy.

But reguardless, you're the partisan hack. You're the one making claims you cannot back up.
