I remember when first arriving on this site there were some very interesting and radical characters. At one time there were dedicated communists who would frequent the forum and engage in constant debate against well-read classical liberals (like John L and Baldar). There were also self-proclaimed fascists and whacky nationalists who often posted (such as OswaldTheOsprey). More recently however the board appears to have adopted this moderate quality, with members defending partisan positions and hardly deviating from a centrist view point. I'm not suggesting that it has become boring or anything, and some may even consider this an improvement that allows for more meaningful discussions. It is merely interesting how the board evolved, for better or worse.

Perhaps this all a misrepresentation. Thoughts?

I considered Baldar a Federalist, not a Classical Liberal.

Ah, yes. It's a shame we can't access the old forum to read the posts of older members.

I'm thinking the election is a possible factor or is partly responsible for the spread of moderate attitudes on the board. Radicals could be repelled by partisan politics, which is indeed the primary focus of this forum.

I miss the kooks.  They prefer to espouse the challenging ideas.

I don't really like the partisan direction this board has taken.  I hate discussing politics in that way.

Those who usually are more passionate about either A) a dialectic (Iamme, Illy, Abraxas) B) their crazy ideologies (Oswald, Pond and Baldar) or C) incessant but entertaining ridicule (BBW, Ahk) are usually the more entertaining.

This is all experience from the U.S. forum.  I do miss non-religious P&R dicussions as well as enviroment and world discussions.  Those tend not to happen anymore.  Everyone seems to jus gravitate towards the U.S. forum.  I blame Reagonite.

This would be the problem. And yes, it's probably Reaganite's fault  Wink.

What ever happened to Baldar? He was an ass but he was always fun to debate.

Oswald had a lot going on in his life, and I would guess it just pushed internet forums down the priority list.  I always like him, as he could completely disagree with someone and still be civil.
