This is one of the most bizarre and uncomfortable news item at the moment in Australia. Lips Sealed

In South Australia(they are a unique population down there  Wink) a man and his daughter have revealed that they are in a sull sexual relationship. The guy is 61 and his daughter is 39.

Now, a few facts make this a different type of incest relationship from the ones you usually hear on the news.

- They met for the first time after the father left the marital home 30 years ago. There was a sexual chemistry and there you go, it all started. Not the usual type of father daughter reunited story.

- They have two children. The first baby died some years ago from a heart defect, and their current child is 9 months old. Which makes the child, the mans grandchild and child at the same time.

- A judge in court has banned them from having sex.

So, the upshot is that they want to be left in peace and lead a normal relationship.

So what do you guys think? Should be they left alone to continue their relationship and raise their child, or what should happen?

It is a major ethical and moral dilemma.

Here is the full story;(with a pic of the father and daughter)

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/7334649.stm

Quote
An Australian man and his daughter have asked for understanding after revealing on national TV they have an incestuous relationship, and have a daughter.

John Deaves, 61, appeared on the TV show 60 Minutes with daughter Jenny, 39, and nine-month-old Celeste - to whom he is both father and grandfather.

Last month a judge banned them from having sex with each other and revealed they had a child in 2001 who died.

But they insisted on the programme that they were "normal intellectual adults".

Mr Deaves said they both "had careers, had a normal life like everybody else".

He added: "But [we have] fallen in love with each other when we are biologically related, when we've discovered each other later in life."

Mr Deaves had left the family home when his daughter Jenny was a baby, and did not see her again for 30 years.

When the couple met, in 2000, they began a sexual relationship.

Ms Deaves told 60 Minutes she began to see John as a man first and a father second.

"I was looking at him, sort of going, oh, he's not too bad. Like you might look at a man across the bar at a nightclub," she said.

"John and I are in this relationship as consenting adults. We are just asking for a little bit of respect and understanding."

The couple each pleaded guilty to two charges of incest last month and were banned from having sex with each other.

According to the judge's ruling in the case, the couple had a child in 2001 who died from congenital heart disease shortly after birth.

I read this yesterday. That's just..... effing gross. But I don't neccessarily believe there should be laws about it, even if the kid is doomed.

There should be a law about them reproducing...if its done again, prison time.  Let them sleep together, but contraception/sterility is required.  We can't be having inbreed and genetically inferior people on our planet.  There is a reason why incest is illegal besides the moral judgment.

I agree, personally for me its wrong and sick in any way. From a more political and practical standpoint, its highly increases the chance of genetic defects and rather twisted children I guess. Definatly should be a law against this (which to my knowledge is, since Incest is forbidden in basicly every country).

Well, though it is pretty sick, I don't think any act between consenting adults should be illegal. But if they are going to do that here should be 0 chance of them conceiving (i.e. they should both be forcibly sterilized). It is not fair to bring a child into the world under those circumstances because 1) the child would almost certainly have some sort of genetic abnormalities 2) imagine the psychological effect this would have on the child.

It is a major ethical and moral dilemma.
Society has a strong vested interest in disbarring any potential breeding by these people.  So long as her tubes and/or his testes are snipped, society's principal interest is served.

Short of that, I have no problem - so long as they are consenting adults of sound mind since it is none of my business.  Short of the risk of breeding monstrosities, I can't think of any reason incest is wrong by itself.
