Last week bore the tragic deaths of three students at my school. A fire killed April Englund, Amanda Rief, and Scott Hams as they slept. This horrible accident sent shockwaves of grief through our school. But what happened afterwards was beyond shocking.

This morning at 7:45 the right wing religious hate group of the Westburo Baptist Church came to picket on our campus. They stood on the corner with evil smiles as they held signs preaching "God Hates Fags" and "God Hates America". One even depicted a burning house with "Gods Wrath" written in bold. They took up their position as more than 300 of us students stood in defense of the grieving families. We carried signs bearing the names of our lost friends and shouted “Go home, no one here wants your hate”. We woke up early and braved the chilly winds to show our solidarity with each other. We resisted their bigotry and hatred by waving signs of peace and hope, some even got creative. A friend of mine who stood just behind the picketing church and held a sign with a downward arrow “We Are Idiots”.
As the police kept order we rushed in around them, completely surrounding them for several minutes. The hateful signs of the picketers couldn’t be seen by on looking cameras because of the mass of students. We chanted “go home, go home, go home” and at 8:05 am they did. As they walked to their cars near one of our dorms a student blared music out his window, music to the tune of “God Bless America”.  Unfortunately for one of our families they left to Minnesota to picket the funeral of April Englund.  All of our hopes and support go out to the families of these innocent students especially those who must bear the indignity of this religious bigotry.

We, the students of the University Wisconsin Stout, ask for your support.

These guys make neo-nazis seem 'reasonable', even rational.

Someone has to start making their lives a living hell. Go to their places of work. Go to their homes. Picket the schools where their children attend. Write your congress-whatever.

I won't advocate violence on IAP. I'll leave that to your imagination, but the only reason they still picket is because they havent yet received the beating they deserve. The first time 5-6 of them end up in hospital will be the last time you hear of them.

As much as I hate these edit and everything they stand for, violence should not be used against them. Nor should they be banned from saying what they want to.

I know you frequent other parts of the forum where this language is tolerated, but here, civility and decency is the order of the day.

These people are an absolute disgrace and the sick organisation they do volunteer work for.

I must say that I had never heard of that organisation until this thread. I had a look at their picket schedule and could not believe my eyes. They select totally innocent people who have done nothing to harm them, then defame their reputation just after they have died with some insane garbage and totally upset the grieving family and friends.

I really ask myself what sort of parents or society could bring up people like this? Where is their self respect, respect of other people or even plain human decency? I wouldn't even call them religious, its just an insane lunatic cult. All they want to do is spew their hatred and hurt onto other people who have done them no harm. Thats not religion or worshipping god, that is just hatred mixture with insanity.

I generally deplore violence, but I could well excuse a parent or friend of one of the deceased for inflicting violence on some of these loonies that turn up with their shameful banners.

The greatest tragedy is for a person to die with the music still within them.

Oh, I certainly wouldn't blame anyone.

I would invite them to come here to the Ft Bliss National Cemetery and try this at a funeral here......my guess is none of them would be in any shape to leave....and the desert here is huge....may take a few weeks to find them.
