This should end the "Bush's War For Oil" screech from the liberals but I doubt it. No amount of evidence to the contrary will ever convince them. Truth has never been one of their strong points. Iraq Qualifies 35 International Oil Companies to Bid for Future Oil and Gas Contracts AMMAN (AP) -- Thirty-five international oil companies have qualified to bid for future oil and gas contracts to develop one of the world's largest oil fields, an Iraqi oil ministry statement said Sunday.
"The total number of the companies and consortia that participated in the prequalification process was 120 from various nationalities," said the ministry's petroleum contracts and licensing office.
The office listed 35 companies that it said were qualified. They include, among others, BP PLC, Chevron Corp., Exxon Mobil Corp., Royal Dutch Shell PLC, Lukoil Holdings, China National Petroleum Corp., Edison International SpA and Eni SpA.
The contracts office, however, said it would continue updating the process of qualifying companies "especially those that didn't pass (the qualification process) by updating their information with the view to allowing as many as possible of the IOCs to participate in the next licensing round."http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/080413/iraq_oil.html?.v=1

How does this mean the war is not about oil? Even if European or Asian companies get most of the contracts there's still room to say the war is about oil and we screwed up.
This article says 85 companies were barred from bidding unless the Iraqi's 'update their information' I read that as a request for a bribe.

Just can't admit it can you? No matter what you will cling to the "War For Oil" hoax. " Even if European or Asian companies get most of the contracts"... that would mean the US did not go into Iraq for their oil. If we had then all of those "War For Oil" contracts would be going to US companies without Iraqi involvement or approval. As I have stated before, the Iraqi's are determining what happens to their oil resources. Not the Bush Administration. Get over it liberals, you've been fooled once again by people who don't think you are smart enough to figure it out yourselves. In most cases they are right. Few here or elsewhere will now admit they have been duped. Simply pathetic.

You do have a point about Iraqi self determination rather than American dictation. But I'd suggest our government can put pressures on theirs they would respond too, and that Americans companies getting Iraqi oil contracts would count as a good thing to our government. If no collusion exists someone is probably working very hard to fix that.

That is the point and has been for five years now. This is a light-years away from the the US starting a "War For Oil" we have heard so much about the last five years tadpol. The Iraqi Government has always, ALWAYS, had control of it's oil exports and revenue from oil sales (at least after Saddam's removal that is). But liberals will still believe the "War For Oil" hoax. I won't be waiting around for them to admit they were wrong. They never do.

What this proves is simply that the Iraq War, like all others wars, was fought at the behest of international multinational capitalism courtesy of American blood and money. This nation should get back to the principles of George Washington's Farewell Address and mind its own business.

I don't see how this refutes that the war wasn't about oil and control? I think its was also about trading oil in petro dollars as well...it may well be about oil, buy who gets the contract isn't the only dimension.
What makes you think any of these bids will be rewarded to the highest offer?

But besides the instant gratification of fleecing U.S. taxpayers of billions and fleecing the Iraqis for rebuilding their countries infrastructure that they get paid for twice (first by U.S taxpayers to fund said rebuilding, then by the Iraqis on repayment) but every drop of Iraqi oil sold will now be priced in U.S. dollars...not EURO's........God bless America.

It doesn't matter what you see or don't see. All we have heard is that the US went to war for Iraqi oil. That has always been a lie. The fact is that Iraq has always decided the question of their natural resources. Who they offer oil contracts to is their decision. You can spin this anyway you want. We have heard nothing but lies for five long years now. Those lies have been exposed and destroyed.

The fact is Iraq can sell their oil to anyone they want. They can hire anyone they want to help them develop their oil fields. That fact is a far cry from the lies that have been told in this country. Bush's "War For Oil" was a hoax and always has been. BTW, Iraq's infrastructure was sorely in need of repair for many years now. Long before GWI. Saddam was spending oil money on himself, his military and his cronies at the expense of the Iraqi people. He didn't spend money on the nations infrastructure or the Iraqi people. He starved them while his cronies squatted on gold toilets and lived in plush palaces. After GWI nations like France and Germany procured lucrative oil contracts with Saddam while turning a blind eye to the Iraqi people. Now that the Iraqi people actually need their help they turn another blind eye because their sweetheart oil deals are at an end.

The fact is Iraq can sell their oil to anyone they want. They can hire anyone they want to help them develop their oil fields. Just a heads up, Ron. But the very first thing our troops did, just as soon as the USAF was finished decimating Iraq's infrastructure and killing or maiming tens of thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians....the very first thing we did was secure the oil fields. Documented fact. Here's another one.....We still control and "provide security" for all Iraqi oil Fields. Black marketing in oil is estimated at hundreds of thousands barrels , stolen or disappeared. These indisputable facts do not support most of your contention's. In a nutshell, Ron. I don't just think your full of crap, I'm absolutely positive of it.

In light of what Saddam did upon his exit from Kuwait, does it make sense to do that? Yes or no question...

Ron Mars is our greatest conspiracy theorist posting here, of all time . He actually believes that Bush didn't lie to or mislead the country into war and that the "liberal media" made up the perception that he did. Ronny stands alone as a monument to faith based politics. He "believes" that Saddam was an immediate "nooquelure" threat to the US and that oil had nothing to do with the invasion. He might be funny if he were not so sadly blind to reality.

He actually believes that Bush didn't lie to or mislead the country into war and that the "liberal media" made up the perception that he did. The media has been quite guilty of pushing their own agenda in the past so it's not too much of a stretch to say they are doing it in this case too. The MSM has very little credibility and their ratings and sales are starting to reflect just that.
