The point patton is that evolution is no more a statement of "something from nothing" than to say broccoli came form nothing.

To me, abiogenesis is "something from nothing"

I never said that.....I do believe in evolutionary principles....evolution is adaptation.....but the theory does nothing to answer abiogenesis.

And this is necessary because? God does not explain it either to my satisfaction, but I know which trail of bread crumbs I'd keep following if I needed the answer.

And which came first? Amino acids or life?

I'm sure you;ve seen and debated this before but for the hell of it Smiley :

The Origins of Life

It's still a big question mark at the end of it, but since we see examples of this molecular evolution everywhere i'm going with it over "7 days and 7 nights" Smiley

An even bigger question is, do we see examples of spontaneous generation today or 'cause without effect?'

Okay. I'll bite. Do we?

Or do we simply see things without being able to see the cause?

For a long time no one believed in germs because we couldnt see them. Now we can. SO anytime you see something that apparently is spontanious one must consider we might just not be seeing the cause.

Remember my original point was simply that
A; Evolution is not simply "something from nothing"
and
B; Is not believing (at all -- in any way -- so someone like Patton would not count)  in evolution and instead believing totally, verbatum in the Biblical creation not "radical"?

This is where a  philosophical/religious discussion could take off....rather than use this forum for the discussion (since it is really OT for this thread and forum), it could be carried on in P&R if so inclined...but you and I have been here long enough and know eachother well enough to know concrete/definitive proof to change either ones opinion/belief does not exist....so we can go to P&R for the mental/debate exercise...or shake hands and move on....I'm good for either.

I agree. It is OT and if someone doesn't believe in it they dont believe in it and Im good with that.

I feel no compelling need to convince anyone or you would've seen me take up permanent residence in P&R a while ago Smiley

Can't we all just agree to say that we DO. NOT. KNOW?
This is a wise man who has the ability and the good sense to admit this one universal truth about how it all came to be. Anybody claiming to know the origin of the univese should be suspect in anything he says.

I have faith I know ... that's the best I can do.

ps: yet I still don't know the mechanism used to bring it all to fruition.

I'm more confused with the origin of God then the origin of human life. I don't understand how introducing an even MORE complex being erases the relative lesser complexity of the human race...

... but hey... that's why I'm an atheist...

It is admittedly confounding. I can't get my hands around it.

That alone shows how simple the human mind is. If a beach is all knowledge, then we hold about a grain of sand. We are so stupid, we cannot even stop fighting among ourselves like school children.

God thankfully doesn't rely on our 'understanding.' He will reveal himself in his own time. You seem like a good guy. I hope you do one day find God.

I think that maybe you will.

The same people who oppose evolution and abortion also oppose eugenics. This makes them totally opposed to a rational, humane and civilized world.

I'm not really that familiar with 'eugenics' and from a quick google, couldn't get a great answer, either. What do you mean by it?

Couldn't read all of it but hit some highlights. Is the gist that we should try and breed stupid people OUT of society?
