McCain distances himself from Bush...until he needs money.

But they are minimizing the TV coverage.

McCain to Make a Rare Appearance With Bush
By Laura Meckler

President Bush and John McCain will appear together at a fund-raiser in Phoenix Tuesday, the first time in nearly three months that the Republican presidential candidate will be seen beside the man he hopes to succeed.

With Mr. Bush's popularity at a record low, the McCain campaign has made sure that television footage of the two men together will be minimal. The maneuvering is the latest example of Sen. McCain's aggressive effort to separate himself from the White House, even as he embraces many of the policies that Mr. Bush has promoted throughout his presidency -- and even as he ...

Maybe OT for this thread and maybe not.  While some may prefer posts from the WSJ, sometimes the Huffington Post shares some interesting stuff. While IMHO McCain can't separate
himself from Bush, though he would like very much not to be seen publicly with him, from a policy perspective they remain joined at the hip. Not much left of the old "straight talking
express" from 2000 though McCain would like to continue to be viewed as the "maverick" from then.

Looks like McCain's good buddies may be violating the rules established by none other than McCain for his campaign.  Worth a read if the continued issues related to the McCain campaign concern you as they do me. Will he remove his pals who are violating his rules?

Ew. Getting kinda embarrassing.

"It’s almost amusing. John McCain’s presidential campaign distributes a daily email to reporters, letting journalists know about the senator’s schedule. The big event, obviously, for McCain today is his event alongside the president of the United States, with whom he has not appeared publicly for months. In this morning’s email, 'McCain’s campaign made no mention that the leader of the free world would be appearing with the candidate tonight.'" --from thecarpetbaggerreport.com.

Here's what Obama had to say about it:

“I just had the privilege of visiting with Felicitas Rosel and Francisco Cano at their home here in Las Vegas,” Obama said. “Today, John McCain is having a different kind of meeting. He’s holding a fundraiser with George Bush behind closed doors in Arizona. No cameras. No reporters. And we all know why. Senator McCain doesn’t want to be seen, hat-in-hand, with the President whose failed policies he promises to continue for another four years."

True.
