So, do the pirates all say that in unison? Cause that's kind of weird.

And if so, why do they say "I am but a man"? Shouldn't it be "we are but men"?

I read it in a book by Noam Chomsky and thought it was intresting considering the pirate persona I seem to have gotten (and expanded). I'm pretty sure Chomsky didn't make it up and I *DO* think it is rooted in some kind of fact (or mythology).

But why would pirates (plural) say "I am but a man" (singular)?

And do pirates say that a lot, thus being able to say it in unison? Do pirates exist in the same existence as musicals?

No, pirates don't say it in unison. It's not the Lord's Prayer or anything.
