If partitioning does take place, I believe there should be NO western influence, otherwise we make the same mistake Britain made with the different mandates after WWI, and we see how well those turned out.
I agree. Partitioning Iraq may be what is best for security in the region, but I cannot be sure. I do not live there. The people who do live there have given the whole idea a collective and bi-partisan, ginormous middle finger, and that's enough for me.

...the only option is leave them alone and kill each other until a local haegemonic power forces peace down their throats... and be sure you're a friend to that power... What you are describing is the situation when the Baath Party took control after eight coups in six years.

My thoughts as well...

Huxley,
Bush doesn't want to partition the country either, so this was not the plan "since the beginning".
Where's Patton? I know he's a pretty big fan of this.
I used to be... but I realized that if the Iraqis don't like/want it, then it's doomed to fail. It relies on them, so implementing it on a group of people who will undoubtedly subvert it just seems like a dumb idea.
Abraxas, I do not see how that proves anything. As I said the parition has been the plan of the CFR all along, can you discredit that? I don't give a flying you know what about what Bush thinks, he doesn't matter anymore, he's just a lame duck puppet trying to salvage some bit of phony legacy.

I don't give a flying you know what about what Bush thinks, he doesn't matter anymore, he's just a lame duck puppet trying to salvage some bit of phony legacy. Yeah, I forgot. The country is run by private enterprises. Silly me. I must have been crazy to forget such an obvious fact.
