With all the debates about global warming and what not, I thought we could take a brief second to view nature in all its glory: Lightning around an erupting volcano...... I mean... WOW! If anyone else has a cool picture to share, by all means, do so.

Great pics, but locally it's very difficult to breathe when one goes outside. Not just unhealthy air for sensitive groups, but just plain unhealthy air. Dry lightening is the reason in our case and this summer though CA tends to burn in the summer this is how it is as the result of thousands of strikes and appears that there will be more today/tonight and more fires as the result. Worst I've ever seen in 38 years residing in the not so golden state. Global warming or just normal climate change? In either case the smoke is really nasty and the whole Central Valley is bad news. http://www.sacbee.com/101/story/1012305.html

Once again, Abraxas, what a spectacular pic! No complaint from me, but I question if the early fire season we are experiencing with hundreds of dry lightening fires is simply one more aspect of the global warming. Thanks for sharing the pics. Very true it is nature in all of it's natural beauty.

One of my professors is doing plasma physics research with NASA and we had an interesting conversation about this.
They're honestly not entirely sure why lightning does this... and the theories are all pretty interesting...
