The brilliant and acerbic writer, H.L. Mencken, penned one of his boldest articles in the September 1930 issue of his magazine The American Mercury. Entitled "The Calamity of Appomatox", it dealt with aspects of the War of the Northern Aggression that one doesn't see discussed today.
