Quote from: Colonel Mudhher al-Qaisi, police chief in the town of Baiji
A U.S. helicopter airstrike on Wednesday night killed eight civilians, including two children, north of Baghdad,
The attack was on a group of shepherds in a vehicle in a farming area. Relatives said some of those killed were fleeing on foot after the U.S. military arrived in the area.

"This is a criminal act. It will make the relations between Iraqi citizens and the U.S. forces tense. This will negatively affect security improvements,"
...
Quote from: Ghafil Rashed whose relatives were killed in the Baiji helicopter strike.
The Americans raided our houses ... People start fleeing with their children, then the aircraft started bombing people in a street along the farm
source

So the US helicopter fired on poeple fleeing after their house was raided by US troops.
If they did nothing wrong and were by no means ennemies of the americans, why did they escaped in the night?
It seems that I would have held my hands up.

Comment anyone?

The quotes really should be put in context.

Quote
BAIJI, Iraq (Reuters) - Iraqi police said on Thursday a U.S. helicopter airstrike killed eight civilians, including two children, but U.S. forces said the six adults killed were militants suspected of links to a bombing network.

you are prepared to "hold your hands up" for every single person in the Middle East, Freddie. Whether it's Palestine, Iraq, Iran, Kurdistan, Chechnya, or smth, - you advise them to "hold their hands up".

If they did nothing wrong, why would the americans shoot at them?

Either the had done someting wrong or they didn't know it was american forces. I think they didn't know they were americans.
If the attackers were shiite or sunni I would have escaped immediately, of course. Not in front of US troops. Depends  on who is attacking.
