UNION CITY, Calif. (AP) - Republican John McCain rejected the months-old endorsement of an influential Texas televangelist after an audio recording surfaced in which the preacher said God sent Adolf Hitler to help Jews reach the promised land. "Obviously, I find these remarks and others deeply offensive and indefensible, and I repudiate them. I did not know of them before Reverend Hagee's endorsement, and I feel I must reject his endorsement as well," the presidential candidate said in a statement issued Thursday. Hagee quickly responded that he was withdrawing the endorsement. McCain actively courted Hagee, who leads a megachurch with a congregation in the tens of thousands and has an even wider television audience. All ministers, priests, rabbis, etc. should stay out of politics. This includes Hagee, Parsley, Wright, Jackson, Sharpton, Robertson et al.

This wasnt someone who he knew that turned out to be bad . This was someone who is known for what he is and McCain looked him up and solicited his support to gain a political advantage.

But it is beyond belief that he sought out an endorsement without looking in to the endorser. If that is how he and his people do their homework, I wouldn't want him as pres. All in all yes, McSame's problem with his preacher is far far worse. VERY well said. McCain has seeked out a (well known) controversal preecher and accepted his endorsement, hoping all it would do is get him votes among ultra right wing (have you heard his stuff?) religion devotees... and then dropped him just as quickly cause people started hearing the sruff he was saying. All Obama did was stand by a close friend... until he truely lost his marbles in the spotlight. |
