remember a debate here on whether Al Qaeda had anything to do with Palestine, and the US' role in the occupation thereof. Some feel the need to deny the obvious.  Maybe a source more authoritative than myself can change that. Leader  of one of the pro-Israeli lobbies in the US says:

""A real pro-Israel strategy that ends Israel's conflicts with its neighbors
peacefully would eliminate a prime recruiting tool for Al-Qaeda and other
extremists, not only in the region but around the world..""

I fail to see how peace and tranquility would fully benefit Israel?  A unified and cooperative Arab world would pose a serious threat politically...and militarily as a threat.

Also, Israel has a large vested interested in defense manufacturing.  It receives billions in foreign military financing from the west b/c it needs defense funds...with peace, these funds could be in jeopardy.

Do you think that the above school of thought is recognized by the Israeli lobbies?  Do you feel it is the a focal point of their strategy?

No. Israel will always be able to procure American funding for itself. Reasons are irrelevant. Relevant is the ability to get the money. Presently Israel receives large US aid in two packages, - economic and military. It is understood that in case of a peace settlement, US aid would go UP, not down. Israel considers itself entitled to compensation for the "painful compromises" of peace, and the US had long agreed to provide them.

I don't see how Foreign Military Financing (FMF) would go up in the face of peace...whats your argument for that?  Part of the argument for FMF from the Israeli side is for b/c it is in a hostile region.

I don't think "peace with the Palestinians" would stop al-Qaida recruting.
That would make one more pretext irrelevant after US troops were removed from Saudi Arabia (which was reason #1 for al-Qaida at this time) but they will find many others (Danish cartoons, Dutch movies, some quote from the Pope etc).

Not saying that peace wouldn't be good for Israelis and Palestinians.
With peace Israel could finaly see natural economic developement alongside the whole region (vs. the artificial one with aid).
Trade would grow between Israel and its neighbours (Lebanon for example), investment agencies would upgrade the region etc.

[sarcasm]
The pro-Israeli lobbyist is obviously well-versed in Al Qaeda's motives and understands that Israel is really at the crux of this whole terrorism thing........ blowing up Muslims in front of the Danish Embassy in Pakistan is proof in the pudding that without Israel, Al Qaeda would have no reason to attack..........
