...and on a related note, here's a good article about the gross hypocrisy employed by some "conservative" states, such as Alaska. They religiously vote Republican, but not because they necessarily share the arch-conservative philosophy of today's Republican party: http://www2.washingtonmonthly.com/features/2007/0711.homans.html

Maybe but I bet I had something more compelling to offer than just the name.

Yes, well, we all think our own shit must shine, eh?

LOL! "Yes, well, we all think our own shit must shine, eh?" Yes, those intense words practically sing operatic arias of the page. Especially, the "Yes, well" part.

Defining the opponent as emotional. The tactic of the angry and empty. I never thought you were so petty.

What's wrong with telling you what you said rather than listening to what you said? You do it all the time.

And yes swearing is emotional.

You do that in every post you write. You define what people say instead of listening to what they said and you define their motives and a whole host of other things instead of just listening to them.

Ahk

You could have just saved the excess typing and said, Nu-uh! YOU ARE!

Swearing is emotional? Always? Really? LOL! If you say so.

I define the opponent as emotional in every post write? Every one of 947?

Extreme language is emotional.

(Damn! 948!)

Look, I cursed

Ahk has an excellent point here, Irwin.  He's got you pegged.

That's because you are shrill. Most of your arguments are, "you moron" and screeching the apocalypse with no understanding of basic modern economics. You still have yet to answer how we are supposed to find 12 trillon dollars worth of commodities to pull off the market and put in a vault to back the dollar. You have yet to explain how pulling all these commodities WON'T cause prices to skyrocket. You keep saying the dollar will fail but you can't explain how. You keep saying it's a fact that the Fed caused the depression when it is only one theory. Most theories say it actually only one of multiple factors. You still haven't explained why returning to 19th Century economics is a good idea.

All this, and all I get is that I'm "inept" and a "moron."

Find where I called anyone else shrill. No, just you.

Here's the new GOP election strategy: Run against their own records.

Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.) told GOP congressional hopefuls on Thursday that they should not be afraid to criticize both political parties — including Republican members of the House.

During a conference call, the National Republican Congressional Committee chairman instructed candidates, campaign managers and press secretaries that given the anti-incumbent environment, it could be beneficial for House GOP candidates to distance themselves from politicians they may be serving with next year.

“These [congressional approval] ratings are worse than we had on the eve of losing the majority,” Cole said. “Don’t be afraid to say you are disappointed in fellow Republicans… don’t hesitate to be anti-Washington, D.C.”

For six years, the GOP held the White House and both houses of congress. Their performance was so pitiful that they now are running against themselves. Notice how there's no discussion of changing their policies.

There's no discussion that perhaps the Republican party should start:
  • taking global warming seriously
  • get some grownups to manage the economy, instead of ideologues who claim that tax cuts increase revenues
  • decide that maybe they are there to represent all of us, not just the tax-dodging plutocrats Bush calls his "base."

Little things like that.

Well, at least the GOP will always have Alaska.

Oh, wait...

Poll: Obama Leading In Deep-Red Alaska!
By Eric Kleefeld - August 12, 2008, 5:07PM
Now this is something: A new poll of Alaska from local firm Hays Research has Barack Obama ahead in this deep-red state -- a place that has voted Dem only once, in the LBJ landslide of 1964.

The numbers: Obama 45%, McCain 40%, with a ±4.9% margin of error. Other recent polls from Rasmussen and Research 2000 have given McCain the lead here, so this poll might be an outlier.

On the other hand it's only the seond poll that we've seen from a respected local firm -- a poll conducted in July by Ivan Moore gave McCain a bare three-point lead -- so it might be an early sign that John McCain will have to work hard to hold on to a state that most Republicans can count on winning easily.

In that spirit, the Obama camp also announced today that they picked up the endorsement of Jim Whitaker, the Republican mayor of Fairbanks.

GOP Senator In Tough Race Quits Role On McCain Campaign
By Eric Kleefeld - August 13, 2008, 6:05PM
Republican Sen. Gordon Smith of Oregon has taken yet another step to distance himself from the national GOP as he runs for re-election: The Oregonian reports that Smith has resigned his role as a state co-chairman for the McCain campaign.

The official reason Smith is doing this is so he can focus his time and effort on his re-election campaign in this blue state. But bear in mind that these co-chair roles are really honorary titles -- he wouldn't have to actually do anything except lend his name to the campaign, at any rate.

But for a senator who has now been airing ads tying himself to Barack Obama and John Kerry, it seems like even an honorary role on the McCain campaign is too off-message.

Here is the latest contretemps from the Republican national campaign:

CQ TODAY ONLINE NEWS

Ensign Fumes Over Failed GOP Fundraising Effort
By Bart Jansen, CQ Staff
The chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee said Friday colleagues have not heeded his calls for contributions to contested races, threatening advertising on behalf of GOP candidates.

“It has become clear that my call has gone largely unanswered,” Sen. John Ensign of Nevada fumed in a statement. “I have no control over the timing or content of (independent) ads, but I have had no choice but to decrease the total budget for our (independent expenditures) unit.”

Republicans, who must defend 23 seats this fall — including five retiring incumbents — compared to 12 for Democrats, have faced difficulties throughout the campaign raising money while in the minority. The NRSC had $24.6 million on hand as of June 30, according to reports filed with the Federal Election Commission, compared with $43 million for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

The selling of the GOP brand reminds me of car dealerships trying to sell overpriced gas guzzling SUVs ... They were very popular a couple of years ago...and now they can't get noticed.

Irwin, in Fort Knox alone there is 147.3 million troy ounces of gold.  At todays average of about $800.00 each troy ounce that means there is $117,600,000,000.00...thats 117 trillion dollars, in Fort knox alone.
As usual, Irwin, your mindless rhetoric is easily proven to be utter donkey crap.  Now that you mention it, I don't call anyone else a moron but you.

No need to pull "commodities" Irwin.  Already supposedly in our reserves.  Is this enough to shut you up on this issue?  Or will you find some way to whine like a bitch about this as well?

You keep saying the dollar will fail but you can't explain how.

I have explained my theory to you a multitude of times.  But you are so busy spinning off in your own little ignorant whirlwinds that you don't hear.  Inflation, You've heard of it I'm sure, since you are so knowledgeable on economics.  The over inflating of the money supply by rampant government overspending and through fractional reserve currency inflation by the fed.  Compounded by the possible loss of the petro dollar and/or the loss of the dollar as the default world currency.  How many fucking times do I have to type this shit in before it sinks in?  It isn't that obscure a theory.  Big time economics wiz like yourself should be all over this shit.

It was a culmination of events, dill weed, but Bernake has already conceded the fed was a major contributor to the depression happening.  If you could use logic and reason, you to would know what happened, instead , your still juggling theories whilst wearing your aluminum dunce cap.  I believe in sound money.  Money that is a certificate of deposit, not just a piece of paper.  I want old people who save money in a coffee can for years to be able to benefit from their savings.  The way it is now, by the time they get ready to spend it, it has lost all it's value.  I despise this thievery.  The inflationary nature of fiat money gets progressively worse until the money is worthless.  Does this sound like a good thing to you, Mr. Economics?
