Don't be coy.....you are a master with bending words to mean what you want...

I honestly never thought of myself that way...

Quote from: Patton
... please read what you asked and what I replied:

I did, and in my opinion McCain's age impacts greater on his life expectancy then Obama's skin color does on his life expectancy.

In my opinion, criticism of McCain's age is justified, which goes back to your original quote: "McCain thinks he will be attacked because he is older.....seems the attack dogs are out in full force attacking physical attributes one cannot change......"

Quote from: Patton
Does being black increase the likelyhood you will die soon?

Sooner.......

What does that mean to you?

If you don't believe being a black male gives you a shorter life expectancy compared to others, then prove it.

I think the fact that he's wealthy and in the Senate gives him better odds then other black males.

Do you disagree?

Quote from: Patton
Quote
Alright, I get it, you like McCain... but don't play stupid, Patton.

You're a doctor. You know better then ANYBODY that being old comes with a host of mental and physical dysfunctions.

A couple of things I would point out.....I like McCain better than Obama....doesn't mean I like everything about him.

You're playing a statistics game, and like any game one plays with numbers, you can skew things to your liking all day long.

The risk of significant heart disease being a middle-aged African-American male who smokes tobacco in a high stress environment isn't statistically nullified either....so what?

And as smart as you are, you should know that being YOUNG, UNPROVEN and INEXPERIENCED comes with a host of political and foreign policy dysfunctions for those who would run for President.

Should we go through all the medical issues that McCain has already had?

And Obama's had, what? The flu, maybe?

Age is a MAJOR factor here, especially depending on who McCain picks as VP. His choice is more important because there is a damn better chance McCain could die in office before Obama does.

This isn't playing with statistics. This is FACT.

Where do you get your FACT from?

"John Sidney McCain III (born August 29, 1936) is the senior United States Senator from Arizona and presumptive Republican Party nominee for President of the United States in the upcoming 2008 election."
- Wiki

Unless Wiki is wrong with regards to his birthdate, he will be 73 if elected in November.

I'm sorry if I insult people out there, but this is kinda old... and old age brings with it a host of physical and mental dysfunctions...

I'm sorry, I thought you were following along......

What specific data and in what form do you use to make the statement:

...age brings with it a host of physical and mental dysfunctions...

I hope it's not statistical....since you said:

This isn't playing with statistics. This is FACT.

If you are afraid of someone dying at 72....check out Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and Jimmy Carter........LOL

Well as an honest question, I have to say no.

I just hope the Democratic process would sift out those kind of people that are too old...

1) Ben Franklin was never president...

2) Ben Franklin was a drunk and walked around Paris in nothing but a coon skin cap. Do you think we should elect people like that to be president?

3) Jefferson was 58 when he was elected president in 1801. That's not 73.

4) Carter was one of the worst presidents in American history... surley you know that.

And are you really gonna sit there, being the medically trained human being you are, and tell me that being old doesn't cause physical and mental ailmants?

I noticed no answer on what data you use to make your determination:

...age brings with it a host of physical and mental dysfunctions...

Abraxas, you see what you want to see and are looking under rocks to find something wrong where there is no evidence there is.....you are playing as much a "could happen cuz he's old" game as much as anyone who wants to play the "could happen cuz he's a Middle-Aged African American male who smokes in a high stress environment" game...or the "could happen cuz of a crazy white guy" game....why you're at it, why not play the "could happen cuz his wife is crazy"....or the "could happen cuz his ex-minister laid the powah of a curse on him" game.....

His doctors gave him a clean bill of health....do you know more than them?

I can accept Obama's clean bill....even though he smokes.....can you accept McCains?

Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and Jimmy Carter were used as examples of longevity....nothing more.....you seem to think life is over at 72.

And like you said: Carter was one of the worst presidents in American history....at the tender age of 53.

You do realize that McCain's medical records have been released and he only allowed reports a very short amount of time to view them.  There were hundreds of pages of history.  McCain has had a hell of a lot of poor medical issues in his life and while at the moment he is healthy, it does not seem likely (yes based on statistics) that he will remain that way.

3 hours to read a medical record?.....I wish I had 3 hours to review a patients chart before even major surgery requiring invasive lines, at most I get 10-15 minutes before the surgeon and those running the schedule start to throw daggers at me for holding up the OR...you non-medical folks are a real gas.

Quote
There were hundreds of pages of history.

I take it you've never read a medical record....I'm guessing you havn't read much scientific literature either.

If you want the "bottom line" then read the summary...or as in a record...the "assessement"....otherwise, go ahead and decipher hundreds of pages of confusing medical jargon....I could give you 3 days to read the record...and you'd get the same info as reading the "assessement" paragraph at the end of the record.....you're a hoot.

Quote
......while at the moment he is healthy

Why do you say that?

Because the Mayo Clinic Doctors that treat him say so?

Quote
....it does not seem likely (yes based on statistics) that he will remain that way.

Based on what statistics?

You think life ends at 72?......75?......80?

What do you think of Justice Thurgood Marshall?

Should he have not served his last 10 years on the Supreme Court?

How many Supremes are you kicking off the court since they are older than Mccain....Ginsberg?.....Stevens?

Why are you going to do that?

Typical liberal hypocracy.......discrimination is no good if it supports you.....but OK if it supports me......Race discrimination=Bad.......Age discrimination=Good

Especially when there is NO evidence anything is wrong.....you must CREATE something......

Franklin would have made a great president.

Sure, he had boatloads of faults, but he is none the less, a great American. Perhaps the quintessential American thinker of his day - Jefferson, Adams and company lacked a grounding in the practical, the reality of the world that Franklin had in great abundance.

Oh.....that just can't be.....he was OLD....

He conducted the affairs of his country towards the French nation with great success, which included securing a critical military alliance in 1778 and negotiating the Treaty of Paris (1783).

MY GOD!   He was 72 in 1778 and 77 in 1783!!!

Bury the man already......he's WORTHLESS.......He's OLD!

Well Reagan was that old but he spent his last term in the beginning stages of altzeimer's. Of course the wingnuts, once again, are using tactics rather than rational argument. They want you to believe questioning McCain's age is the same as asking for an age limit on the presidency. Yeah, if there were no bullshit, it would be so tough to be a wingnut. Where would you guys be without lying?

Has anyone acted in reality as you are in sarcasm? From what I've read, there is just a worry, nothing more, about McCain's age, which in fact, is old. Do I expect him to die in the next four years? No. Would I be shocked if he did? No, just as I wouldn't be shocked if any 70+ year old died.

I think his age hurts him not because people think he's gonna die, but because people my age (in their 20s) have doubts that some ancient politician has any idea what life is like for us, not to mention any care what life is going to be like when we're 70, long after McCain is dead.
